Pink haired girls do not look professional, are offensive and will have no serious career! While we speak with holograms, have robots hoovering our homes and even transplant whole faces, mankind has a serious problem: There are a few troublemakers disturbing the introspective society with their unnatural hair colours. What a scandal!
Jessica Chelsey wrote a great post about the difficulties of finding a job with colourful hair and inspired me to talk about this topic too. Jessica dyed her gorgeous blue hair back to dark because she was urged to by an employer. Since then she doesn’t feel like herself and sees it as discrimination to be forced to change her appearance in this way. When you consider how hard mankind fought for freedom during its whole history, colourful hair sounds like a ridiculous thing to raise tempers, don’t you agree?
My experience as a girl with a candy floss mane is, that growing a thick skin is the price for having your dream hair. People are making jokes about my hair, children are screaming “Katy Perry” whenever I appear on the street and my mother had a very hard time getting used to have a pink-haired daughter instead of a blond angel.
Sometimes it feels like my pink hair is what the red flag is to a bull in the arena. Some people overslept the takeover of rainbow hair by fashion and still believe, you have to be either a punk or a goth to dye your hair any other colour than a mousy brown.
But, and here comes the but: In my experience my hair was never in the way of my career. Part of it might be because I work in a creative job and this gives me a certain freedom to look the way I choose. But it’s also because there are amazing people out there who are capable of distinguishing the skills of a person and her hair colour. A big thank you to my bosses at this point; you are amazing in counting on what matters: My qualifications. I work as hard as any blond or black-haired girl if not harder.
As head of design of a branding company, I meet a lot of clients, not all of them the most fashion forward people. But nobody ever complained about a pink-haired girl in a sea of suits and I am proud of every client who is intelligent enough to know that hair colour doesn’t destroy brains. Having the job I am qualified to AND my pink hair makes me happy and this in turn makes me do a better job.
I think the world is ready for a gang of colourful girl bosses in 2015! Follow me, everybody of you shall be a drop of colour. We can achieve change together and stand for more tolerance and open-mindedness. The day is close when everybody laughs about colourful hair being an issue at all!

Ah I love the flamingoes and the shoes! I don't understand the stigma, I can't wait to dye my hair, if I'd done it in school I would've been expelled. Hopefully I'll be able to find a job but I'm very aware it#l be more difficult. I don't see why though, it makes life much more colourful! <3

Oh you would be even expelled for having colourful hair? How terrible! I keep my fingers crossed that you will find a very good job and wear your favourite colour all the time. It's possible and I think even the most conservative people might get used to it if they see competent people doing a great job. xxx
I love this outfit! The shoes and the flamingos are to die for! I really love your hair, and it's a shame that most people still have a problem with people who have coloured hair in 2015. It doesn't make a difference to how well somebody does their job, but I think some bosses think it'll be bad for business or something.

I adore this post lovely!! Those shoes!! le faint….They are gorgeous!!! I soo agree with you! I quite love it when someone has pink or blue or whatever magical rainbow color you can think of hair. If I was looking to hire someone, I would never make them change their hair color and I don't think anyone else should either. Anytime I see someone with pink hair…or any other color, it brightens my day! I love it. I would SO go pink in an instant if I had the courage to. I'm just worried that my hair might not be able to take the chemical process and I am kind of attached to my hair color. lol… I definitely see a pink wig or 20 in my future though!!

I would so apply for your job Margarita 😉 The world needs more open-mindness! My hair hates the bleaching so I understand that you don't want to do this to your hair. You look marvellous my dear!! I love this look. I can understand people staring at the pink hair, we seem to have gone backwards in ways. Not sure why, but I love when I see someone that stands out, it literally makes my heart flutter and I feel excitement! If people like that went away, the world would be so boring to me. I spotted some purple hair dye in the store the other day and was really tempted to get it. But, I left it as I wanted to look up the brand first. But, have been thinking for a while on some shade of purple for my hair to mix with the dark shades. Beautiful you my dear!! xx
You are so right! Appearance really should not make any difference to whether somebody is capable of doing a job. It makes me so sad that even in 2015 people can be so judgemental. I think if pink hair makes you happy surely that's better than being sad and doing a bad job?! It also looks so great! XX
Ahh, I agree…Especially in here…If you're dyed your hair other than Brown/Light Brown, You're pierced outside from the ear (Mouth, nose, etc etc), and have lots of tattoos, now way, you're not gonna get any job, not even a normal glance from people…ugh…what a judgmental world we live in…
I can't wait for the day where everyone is brave to be themselves without getting worried you're gonna get "unpleasant" glances…!

ich wurde einmal soger gekniffen weil jemanden meine Haarfarbe genervt hat
und oft genug doof angesprochen.
aber ich stimme dir zu…ich liebe pink auch. momentan auch endlich pastellig (sonst bin ich immer knall pink) und ich fühle mich wohl….lieber so als unauffällig mit einer Haarfarbe die anderen passt aber mir nicht

It is a shame that some embloyers don't accept different haircolours, and some don't accept facial piercings or tattoos either. :/ Why don't they understand that it is part of who they are, it doesn't affect on any skills or how to do the job, like you said. You are lucky to have such a great working environment! Ps: your dress is perfect!
