Do you get nervous if you look at the calendar because with every minute Christmas is coming closer and you still have no idea for the perfect gifts? Don’t despair, breath and maybe this guide will help (at least if you are looking for gifts for colourful people just like us).
Since winter is the time to stay home and make yourself cosy, gifts for the home are my favourite choice. As well I believe it’s time for antidotes against grey days and believe me: Nothing helps more than retiring to a cheerful flat or house!
Here are my gift ideas for a happy home:

1  Pink Throw & Shawl: This luxury baby alpaca throw keeps you warmer than normal wool.
2  Bowie Doll: In Japan Kokeshi dolls are a symbol of friendship. And this one is Ziggy.
3  Circus Vase: A stunning ceramic piece from Portugal in bold colours and with a fun look.
4  Bump Jug: A sleek and stylish mouthblown piece, designed by Tom Dixon.
5  Parrot Pillow: The most beautiful way to show your love is with those tropical birds.

1  Clarins Candle: What we need for the home spa is a candle that smells like tonic!
2  Gradient Candle Holder: It’s quirky, it’s kitschy, it’s a must for the Christmas dinner!
3  Ceramic Pineapple: This eccentric jar is the perfect place to store cookies or treasures.
4  Pink Sheepskin Rug: This piece creates instantly a cosy atmosphere and helps to relax.
5  Arm Chair: A 30s design classic updated with a supercool geometric pattern. My fav!

Everybody knows about my love for colours, Mexico, Frida Kahlo and Disney. So, therefore, I was head over heels when I was asked to attend the press screening of Coco, the new Disney Pixar movie. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is my first ever movie review, and I went to the cinema with high expectations. But could Coco fulfill them or was it like a piñata filled with cheap sweets?

Let’s first talk about the story: Young Miguel, a Mexican boy, dreams of being a famous musician and play the guitar just like his idol. But to his bad luck, he is the son of a prosperous clan of a shoemaker who expects him to carry on their craftmanship. The hatred for musicians runs deep in his family. Miguel rebels against his relatives on the Day of the Dead. After a strange incident, he finds himself trapped on the other side with the dead where he meets as well his ancestors. The boy must try to find his way back to the land of the living and ends up being torn between his love for music and his family, facing the danger of turning into a skeleton himself.

The most impressive thing about the movie: The land of the dead. It’s just one of the visually most stunning animated worlds I’ve ever seen. This fantastically designed place full of neon-lights is inhabited by skeletons, hosts the biggest parties, and you will even witness a show directed by goddess Frida Kahlo herself featuring a giant papaya. One last thing I need to mention: All animals are so colourful and cute, I swear you will catch yourself wishing for a rainbow dog even if you are an absolute cat person!

The story of the movie sounds very much like a typical Disney story with an important moral lesson at the end and a lot of cheesy scenes and singing. If this is what you are looking for you will not be disappointed (ok, maybe there is not that much singing). But there is far more about Coco: It’s a complex universe, a movie that makes you think about legacies, personal ambitions, inner conflicts and the question what matters most in life. There is even murder being revealed, so don’t be fooled it’s all harmless and for children only.

While it’s predictable that there must be kind of a happy end like in all Disney movies, Coco surprises with surprising twists to please the grown-ups and an easy to follow main storyline to make the children happy. It manages this balancing act successfully, and I confess: Yes I even left the cinema with tears in my eyes and the vast urge to decorate my hair with flowers and paint myself a monobrow.

Coco is fun, adorable and a visual treat you don’t want to miss! Now it’s your turn to be amazed:

This is my second beautycare.ch haul, and I am very happy  🙂 I got the Tom Ford Black Orchid fragrance, a perfume that has been on my shopping list for ages. The high price and the fact that I have so many perfume bottles were holding me back. But when I discovered it on beautycare.ch for less money than anywhere else, I couldn’t resist any longer.

Black Orchid is a very opulent, dark oriental chypre perfume. The top notes are jasmine, black truffle, ylang-ylang, and blackcurrant. The heart of the fragrance is floral-spicy and reminds of the black orchid with notes of tuberose, pepper, and cloves. The base combines woody patchouli and sandalwood notes with incense, vanilla, dark chocolate, and vetiver.

It’s an incredibly long-lasting fragrance, and it lingers on my skin much longer than most other perfumes. A little warning: If you try it for the first time you might have to get used to it. Black Orchid is a distinctive scent, one you will not quickly forget or mistake for another one. When I tried it a few years ago I hated it; I thought it’s the kind of scent causing headaches and discomfort.

A few years later I dared a second try which caused an instant obsession. I couldn’t believe how wrong I was to dislike this luxurious, sophisticated fragrance. If there is something like liquid wealth, this is how it must smell! Black Orchid is just as precious and rare as the flower that gave it the name: It’s thick and sweet and like a mysterious black ocean with mystical mermaids.

If you are looking for a signature scent, don’t look any further!

Two months since my revelation about starting sports. You might still be surprised by my change, and if not I am for sure.

But hey: I discovered an unknown discipline and rarely miss to go to my training twice a week. When I can’t go for a really good reason (bad weather, telly shows, and my cat must have stolen my gym shoes doesn’t count), I try to go running instead. Running is something you can do all the time, no matter where you are, even when you travel.

To be honest, I think it’s an entirely dull activity, so I have to trick myself into liking it better with wearing a lot of pink and listening to a cool soundtrack. When I run, I always have to think of Simon Pegg in Run Fatboy Run. The British actor plays a guy who left his bride at the altar only to realize – when she has another boyfriend – that he wants her back. He tries to prove that with running a marathon even if he is not sporty at all. Just like me, but I’ll not give up, fight my lazy nature and run away from my weaker self.

This movie character encourages me not to give up, to just place one foot in front of the other and go on, even if it’s just a few steps further than last time.

Future me must be very proud of me.

Zalando, autumn dresses, blogger look
Dress  –  Hat  –  Earrings
Scarf  –  Knee Socks  –  Handbag  –  Shoes

Rain, rain, rain, there is nothing we have more at the moment! The sky looks as grey as the concrete streets and brutalist buildings, and it takes a little bit more effort to stay in a the mood for quirkiness and colour.

My last outfit shoot had to be postponed because of the lousy autumn weather as well, and instead of posing I am writing this wishlist post snuggled into my blanket. An adorable way to work I must say! As you see, I insist again that looks for colder days are best with a stunning dress.

The core of this outfit is the coolest comic dress from my fav label Moschino. I found it in this inspiring dress guide from Zalando. The dress would go very well with the pink Gucci knee socks and the retro scarf with jukeboxes and diner signs. Pop Art and Comics have always been one of my major style inspirations, just like here often paired with 50s elements.

I couldn‘t resist smuggling in the Eggo earrings: Eleven loves them, I love them too. Gosh, how can it be Stranger Things is already over, and we all have to wait for so so long? Well, even the more reason to get the earrings and this dress and practice to be just as badass as El till our fav girl returns!

Yes, it’s time to get into the mood for Christmas, think about gifts and decoration and get ready! Don’t you spot cookies and tinsel in all shops?

In Zurich, Christmastime means Swarovski-Time: Probably the city’s most famous festive attraction is the sparkling tree by the Austrian jewellery label. For many years it has been in the historical hall of the main station to charm pedestrians and Christmas market visitors alike. The fantastic tree, which is decorated with 6500 to 7000 ornaments, will be there for the 20th time. There are other Swarovski trees in cities such as Moscow, Milano, and Dubai, but Zurich was first. How cool is that?

Year after year I am one of the many people standing in front of the tree with big eyes (and hopefully a mulled wine in my hands). The first time when I saw it as a teenager I was very impressed because it’s unlike any other Christmas tree. I had to think of a giant crystal sculpture from a fairy tale. Since then seeing the tree became a ritual, and I can’t imagine Christmas in Zurich without this tree.

Don’t miss the lightning event! It will take place on the 23rd of November, 19 o’clock. I’d be so happy to see some of you guys there. Until 23rd of December, there will be a daily light show from five till the market closes. If you are not in a festive mood yet, I bet a visit there will change this right now. Ho ho ho!

One of the best things about being a blogger is to receive all the new exciting products. Recently I found these lip balms from Caudalie in my mail, and since I like them a lot, I have to tell you about them.

I mostly wear bright lipsticks on my pictures, you might not think that I am a lip balm type, but on weekends and in the eve I can’t get enough of this stuff. It’s the secret behind my bright lips: The only way to pull off strong colours is when your lips are well moisturized and hydrated. Those three darlings brought an extra hydra boost into my life.

All products from French label Caudalie have something in common with wine, and those lip balms are no exception: They are rich in anti-oxidant grape polyphenols. 98% of their ingredients are natural, such as aloe vera, beeswax, castor and sunflower oil. C’est magnifique! So let’s have a closer look at each of them!

French Kiss Tinted Lip Balm Innocence
This one is the lightest tint. It comes in a very natural pink, meant to enhance your natural lip colour. Its smell is a very subtle hint of vanilla and orange peel. Subtle, just like a translucent wine.

French Kiss Tinted Lip Balm Séduction
A beautiful slightly shimmering soft pink tint with a delicious smell of vanilla. This one is so yummy I have to resist not to eat it. My favourite from the three of them. If it would be a wine, I’d order another glass right away!

French Kiss Tinted Lip Balm Addiction
It’s raspberry red, and it smells like a whole garden of delicious berries! Probably the most indulgent and intense of the three of them. I instantly have to think of a berry merlot.

Which one do you think might be your favourite, can you decide? If yes get it, apply it, and then there is just one thing ahead: Kiss! Just like a Parisian girl, ohlala!

Don’t worry: Ok maybe not all but just the temperature is going down. It’s that time again where girls are tempted to let their beautiful dresses in the wardrobe. It’s getting chilly, and your arms and legs start to feel like frozen icicles, brrrrrrrr!

I say it’s a shame for the dresses to sleep like Cinderella and wait for Prince Summer. I have a better idea: Ignore the weather as long as possible. And if nothing else helps let’s layer, let’s combine and create hot looks no matter the weather!

Today’s outfit is a dress and sheer top combo. I own the top at least for ten years, it’s not spectacular on its own but offers nearly endless options to combine it. And this is why it’s a real survivor of all wardrobe clear-outs.  Ok I admit, it’s not a very warm outfit, but this is how I dress for events, of course with a long coat to keep me warm on my way there.

The actual star of this look is, of course, the Origami Knot Dress by Australian designer Leah Williams. Gosh, how I love this dress! How the bands move when I walk and how you can tie them in different ways… A dream! You might see me teaming it up with a turtleneck and thick tights for a more winterproof combo.

What is your strategy to survive colder days without looking boring?

Mugler, Aura, perfume review

Mugler, Aura, perfume review

Everybody knows: I am a Mugler girl! I love to watch videos of old Mugler fashion shows and even if I like a lot of perfumes, there is one I always return: Mugler’s Alien, my only true love when it comes to perfumes.

Therefore I was very curious when I heard about Aura, the new Mugler scent. I just knew that it must be innovative and different to all the mainstream on the perfume shelves. The emerald green bottle looks unmistakable Mugler and extraordinarily beautiful. Like all Mugler flacons, it’s refillable which is a big plus in times when sustainability becomes more and more an issue. Like Angel and Alien, its name starts with an “A,” standing for the brand’s theme “addiction. The silver part of the bottle forms an “M” for Mugler like a bold signature.

But let’s move to the essential thing and discuss how it smells: Aura is a woody aromatic fragrance. It features rhubarb leaf, tiger liana, orange blossom, bourbon vanilla and wolf wood. The concept of Aura is “botanical meets animal, ” and it creates a magical aura with an overdose of both two components.

My first impression was that it’s a sweet but somehow wild musky scent. Not as crazy as Angel and Alien, but challenging and imposing. I have to think of Emerald City hidden in a thick jungle when I see the beautiful green heart. After wearing Aura for few times, I like it even better, and it grew on me. I caught myself smelling my wrist very often while wearing it and missing it when it’s gone.

Like all Mugler perfumes, Aura is not everybody’s darling, but the seekers of uniqueness will fall for it not despite but because of its edginess. Wearing Aura is not a safe play, but a fragrance for the adventurous woman on a bold journey called life.

Aura, you will sit next to Alien on my shelf, and I’ll be happy to have you keeping me company and telling me to listen to my feline instincts! Yes I am addicted.

Patterns, patterns, patterns! It might be simpler to wear plain fabrics solely, but incredibly sad to miss the beauty of geometry, the diversity, creativity, and playfulness brought into your life by patterns.

Let’s be bold, let’s mix and match, let’s bring together what might not seem to fit at first sight. And last but not least: Let’s never be satisfied with the easy choice if there lies a pattern challenge ahead! Go pattern crazy!

In August, I and my darling visited Lisbon. This journey gave me an extra boost of strong pattern love. It’s amazing how pretty the city is with all its cute, colourful houses and painted tiles. I believe living in a town like this must influence the mind in a very positive way and is indeed a different inspiration than being surrounded by a grey environment.

These pictures could have been taken in Lisbon, and you might be surprised when I tell you we took them in Zurich. My friends from ZigZagZurich created this wall at their new headquarter and turned an ordinary building into a very instagrammable place. I’ll certainly be back for more pictures, and maybe I’m inspiring you too.

Would you like to hear about my adventures and favourite spots in Lisbon in a post?
