Let me tell you about a highlight of the year: The first major exhibition about French avant-garde fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier at the Barbican Gallery in London. Debuting in Montreal in 2011, the exhibition has already been seen by more than a million people on it’s tour and stops now in London till 25th August 2014, featuring a breathtaking amount of more than 140 fashion masterpieces.
Not only the presented garments are outstanding, but the way they are shown as well: If you enter the exhibition, you are greeted by a talking mannequin of Gaultier himself with his charming French accent. You will be amazed by how alive fashion seems, worn by animated mannequins, talking, winking and even flirting with the visitors.
Gaultier was born 1952 in the suburbs of Paris (France) and never received a formal training as a designer. He started to sketch at an early age and became one of the most imaginative designers, shaping the world of fashion during the last 40 years. The enfant terrible of French fashion is fascinated by the idea of transgender dressing, upcycling and world coutures. You will find his trademark corsets in the exhibition as well as maritime designs featuring mermaids and sailors, punks and madonnas, just to name a few of the milestones in the work of the witty designer.
Unlike many other designers, Gaultier managed to connect his fashion with pop culture, movies and show business. Iconic costumes for film and performance – such as the leopard costume worn by Chris Tucker in Luc Besson’s “The Fifth Element”, the conical bra and corsets from Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour or the black overall showcased by Grace Jones  – are part of the exhibition.
Gaultier is known for having unconventional models and muses. Neither his clothes, nor the people inspiring him are conventional. Full-figured or tattooed models has been part of many of his shows just like the play with traditional gender roles. Gaultier was as well the one who promoted the use of skirts for men. His work is controversial and never without unexpected twists, dipping from multifarious sources of inspiration. Visiting the exhibition gives you a glance into Gaultier’s magnificent, bubbling imagination, definitely a must see!
My suggestion for a perfect day:
Visit the exhibition on a morning and plan enough time. Head to Camden afterwards, to feel connected with Gaultier at a place that inspires him and he always comes back to.

wish list, summer fashion, ice cream fashion
Donut Sunglasses  –  Pompom Umbrella  –  Rubber Bangle
Ice Cream Jumper  – Pattern Mix Dress  – Pineapple Socks
Flamingo Clutch  – Ice Cream Heels  – Cat Heels  – Sheer Socks

Time for another wish list! I haven’t posted one for quite a while and my current one smells of summer: Bold colours, pastels, cute prints and a wild mix of patterns is all i need for my fashion summer dream.

Recently, I thought a lot about how my style changed during the last years. I realized that I used to restrict myself. A lot of fashion no-go’s were holding me back from experimenting, till I learned that most dont’s are actually do’s (if they happen on purpose and with a concept). Today I show you a collection of five don’ts that turned into do’s. Hopefully they make you grin.

Do you actually think that there is something as a fashion don’t and did you also change your mind about something in fashion?

5 Fashion Don’ts I Turned Into Do’s

1. Wearing socks with sandals is the biggest fashion crime ever
Followers of my blog must have noticed: I am obsessed with cute socks and love to show them in my summer shoes. As a child it was all different and I was embarrassed by my dad wearing grandma’s knitted socks together with sandals fit for a desert expedition. Sorry daddy: This is still a no go, but girls rock cute socks in their sandals and heels.

2. The easiest way to detect blind people on the street: Pattern Mix
Either you wear dots, stripes, parsley or flower patterns, but never two or even more of them together. I believed in this for a very long time until I discovered (a little bit thanks to Susie Bubble) to mix is actually the biggest challenge and creates the most thrilling looks.

3. There is no reason to wear sneakers outside the gym (unless you are Sporty Spice)
Sporty shoes are for sporty people and I’m the probably most unfit person in the world. The trend of Normcore might be responsible that suddenly I don’t think so anymore. I am very much interested to clash elegant and sporty, casual and overdressed. Therefore I think I need sneakers for my quirky looks!

4. Crop tops are fine, unless you are older than 16
The time of age restrictions in fashion is coming to an end. Thanks to forward people like Madonna changes are happening. People start to wear what makes them feel good, no matter their age. Are you already in your end 20s, 30s or 40s and still look perfectly stylish showing your midriff in a crop top? Just go for it!

5. Your handbag should always match your shoes
This is the most terrible delusion often read in magazines. It means that you can’t wear the most extraordinary bags out there, because you will never find matching shoes. I believe a good styling is like a piece of music: All the components come together as a mixture between harmony and tension. You can match your shoes with your jewellery, your hair colour with your handbag or have one piece sticking out as an eye-catcher. Just play!

karl Lagergeld, melissa, ice cream shoes, high heels
Let’s end the look with Lagerfeld’s ice cream, wouldn’t we?

Quirkiness, what a magical word in my ears! The days I wake up, look in the mirror and think “Gosh, I feel sooooooooo quirky today!” are by far my favourite days. I feel creative, when I dress quirky. The liberty of expressing myself with my looks is dear to me – I think quirkiness is the word that should be written on top of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It’s the ultimate form of self-fulfilment! Call me crazy, but sometimes I can’t sleep because my mind won’t stop creating new looks. The crazier they are, the more happy they make me and I think I just begun. Fashion is the icing on my cake. Eat the cake, never stop to love fashion!

I feel like a queen today, wearing jewellery from Thai designer Kanokkorn Lamlert. Since I saw her unique pieces for the first time, I knew that my inner magpie wouldn’t rest until I have some of them. They look even prettier in real than on the pictures, I can tell you. The details are amazing and I truly adore the colours and shapes. You all know my fondness for Asian designers and Kanokkorn is an especially rare pearl among them.

Wearing Lagerfeld shoes makes me think about Karl. He’s got his Choupette, I have my pink bunny. Jazzafine just knows what I like: A cuteness overdose in pink. I declare Easter for the whole year, bunnies just can’t be restricted to a few days of the year!

Thanks a lot to all the amazing designers out there who make my quirky dreams come true! Now I’m curious: What is your quirkiest outfit and can you beat me in quirkiness?

My Outfit:
Crop Top: Motel, Skirt: Dorothy Perkins,
Necklace & Earrings: Kanokkorn Lamlert (available as well at Guruwan), Fascinator: Jazzafine, Sunglasses: Quay Eyeware
Shoes: Karl Lagerfeld for Melissa, Socks: Topshop
Thanks a lot Kanokkorn Lamlert for the jewellery and to Jazzafine for the fascinator.

Yiddish Chutzpah, Sweet High School, Clueless Fashion
Yiddish Chutzpah, Spanish Fashion, Sweet High School
After their punk inspired “Broken Dolls” Collection, Spanish label Yiddish Chutzpah returns to absolute cuteness. “Sweet High School” is the theme of SS14 and it awakes nostalgic memories of 90s high school movies. The shapes of the clothes have a touch of vintage and the designs are utterly darling but never come without a hint of naughtiness. Just like the prettiest girl at high school, who is knowingly attracting all the boys, but looking absolutely innocent with her angel face.
The collection is a teenage dream for grown up girls, who perfectly know about the effect of how they dress. Scandalously translucent fabrics meet cute collars, skirts in a decent length for convent schoolgirls are combined with daring necklines, all in dreamy pastel colours. Don’t forget to wear knee socks to this look for the perfect girly cheerleader look!
Two of the styles are inspired by Spanish blogger “My Name Is Peggy Sue“, the girl who probably owns the most pink dresses in the world. These styles especially caught my eye and I wish they would be inspired by “Sara is in Love with…” or at least be part of my wardrobe. Sweet dreams are certainly made of love from Spain and come from Yiddish Chutzpah!

British designer Joanna Pybus is back and she brings ice cream with her, loads of ice cream. Joanna’s SS14 collection is all in pastel sorbet colours, simple but flattering shapes and and she continues her tradition to make at least one new print for every collection. This season’s called the “Ice Cream Time”print.

Joanna’s work is fashion made to cause happiness! She recently said in an interview, that her aim is to make fashion that speaks to the people on a personal level and I think that’s just what she achieves. Her creations are a fresh and quirky breeze in a gray world and if you own a piece you want to treasure it like a beloved pet.

Joanna continues her iconic range of furry monster clutches as well and added a few new styles, especially eye-catching among them the rainbow coloured one called Aurora (picture no. 3). If you are looking for something unique, you should have a look straight away at Joanna’s page and get something all handmade by this amazing woman.

Mint dress, pastel outfit, tatty devine shell necklace
Today I feel like wearing mint – the colour of the sea and mermaid.

The most beautiful shells must come from the deepest sea for sure.

Like a journey on a dreamy sea, that’s my look today.

Just the bravest mermaids can dive to the deepest places where the most beautiful treasures are hidden.

The song of the sirens might be the big temptations of the sailors. The thing I’m longing for the most is candy.

Suddenly there are hearts all over, when I think about candy. Can you spot them?

If you are lovely, I might share my precious candy with you.

Such a shame pineapples don’t grow underwater! I think the mermaids would love them just like me.

A rather plain style, compared to my other looks. No wild colour mix, neither pattern crush nor wild headwear. Just a sea of mint, the colour of swimming pools, mermaids and peppermint candy. This colour is like a fresh breeze in my wardrobe and I certainly could get used to it. I know a very lovely girl, who just wears mint and turquoise, with this outfit I start to understand why. I can almost sea a scenery of a fairytale underwater world in front of me, influenced by the look of my outfit.
For the first time in probably ten years I’m wearing a watch. I am certainly no watch girl and use it merely as an accessory. If somebody asks me for the time, I’m just too used to grab for my phone. I dislike the look of most watches and can’t understand the almost magical prestige many people see in them. I don’t believe in big labels neither, they just don’t impress me. I like what visually appeals to me and trust my taste: Caramellissima from Swatch, the watch that won my heart.
To me, this watch is somehow ironic: Among all the pieces made of gold and fine metals, decorated with diamonds, I choose candy! It feels like a rebellious thing I can tell you. Imagine me sitting in the train among a group of business man with their expensive timepieces. A friendly smile on my lips, but a sweet mockery on my wrist. Forget about status symbols, candy rules my mermaid world!

How do you like this look and what’s your opinion on wearing watches?

On a stroll through Brick Lane a while ago, I discovered the outstanding headwear of The Headmistress in a pop up store. After a lovely chat with the designer I was convinced that not just the hats, but as well the maker is very sweet and charming.

The Headmistress was launched by London based designer Samantha Cousins in 2012. Samantha says that her love for hats started already when she was four with the creation of an Easter Bonnet for a school assembly. She studied costume design for film and television and was taught the traditional methods of millinery by royal milliner Rose Cory after graduating.

The Headmistress offers three brilliant ranges of headwear: Bridal & Classic, Monochrome & Metallic and Quirky & Colourful. So no matter if you attend the races, a wedding or just like something whimsical to brighten up your looks, you will find your perfect hat here. A hat all covered in domino stones, a tennis ball fascinator or a printed newspaper hat are just a few among the creations of the limitless imagination of Samantha. She makes the impossible possible and transforms items that you wouldn’t have thought to see on a hat in your wildest dreams into fabulous creations.

Samantha is inspired by vintage fashion from different periods as well as from nostalgic childhood memories. The headmistress is always on the search for beautiful vintage jewellery to include it in her creations. Each hat is unique and hand crafted in Samantha’s studio in London. The designer makes custom pieces as well if you have special wishes.

I am truly enchanted and curious to hear your opinion about those designs. Meanwhile I dream of wearing a The Headmistress hat on my very own head…

One foot in the air, one on the ground: Flamingo, I try to be like you!

Hello flamingos, jungle queens and fruit girls! Time to take your dresses out and embrace spring, wearing your prettiest, tropical looks! I can’t tell you how excited I feel to finally leave the house without a thick scarf. After all the heavy coats, it feels like a great liberation. Goodbye fake fur coats, we will see us again early enough, you kept me warm well, but now it’s time to part! Spring fashion is here and its ‘s exciting, playful and cheeky!

Today’s look features a pink flamingo dress, so there was no way to avoid having it. I couldn’t resist to catch the first sun rays, even if I was in bed with a cold less than a week ago and I’m still not done with coughing. Even a rather sensible girl like me gets reckless, when it comes to showing off flamingo love. Some people started to refer to me as the flamingo queen. This makes me infinitely happy and is exactly what I dream to be in my wildest dreams.

Last summer I fell head over heel for tropical prints and fruits in fashion and it looks like this year this crush is back with equally strong emotions. I don’t want to repeat myself, but I am just not over those things yet. So be prepared for even more prints, more sandals, frilled socks and crop tops. Let the beach party begin!

How do you like this tropical look lovelies?

Rainbow Sandals – Baby Pink Sandals
Toy Food Heel Sandals – Blue Metallic Sandals
Baby Pink Sandals – Metallic Pink Sandals
Baby Blue Sandals – Hot Pink Sandals

Chunky Sandals – the nightmare of most girls during the nineties – are back! This time they come with cool platform heels. Their look is truly edgy, incredibly comfortable without missing the effect of giving you a little bit of extra height. Ugly shoes are the new beauties and really need to find a place in your shoe cabinet!

The Birkenstock sandals are back as well, but I still can’t warm up my heart for them (Sorry mum, I know you love to wear them as house shoes. Maybe you are just more trendy than I am…). Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been spotted already giving in to 90s nostalgia and wearing Birkenstocks and they drop into all the cool shops right now. I would strongly recommend to not go for them, but for a pair of platform heeled styles. I think they have a more modern touch. But never forget: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I already own several pairs of heeled Juju sandals (the baby blue one on the left) and can confirm that they are the best shoes in the world and I don’t go on a city trip without them.
What do you think about chunky sandals and did you fall in love with a pair from my selection?
