On Pink Wings to Flamingo Heaven

We are pink from head to toe.

Do you ever dream of being a beautiful bird with colourful feathers? Among all the birds, there are not many with pink feathers and that’s why the flamingo has a special fascination. I can’t transform myself into a bird, but a dream came true when this amazing flamingo headpiece from Pearls & Swine arrived in my life. When I put it on my head for the first time, I had to jump into the air, overfilled with joy. I can’t understand why a lot of people never even consider to wear a headpiece or fascinator, while I want to put everything what I like on my head. Why bothering with small brooches or necklaces if there is so much space on your head for something big and bright? A headpiece can be very playful and fun: Be the flower girl with a crown of roses, say goodbye to dark days with colourful pompoms or decorate yourself with a beautiful flamingo, just as I!

Wearing my flamingo headpiece makes me feel different, it changes the ordinary girl into something extraordinary. The wings move slightly when I walk and the pink glitter sparkles in the sun. The colour is very flashy and powerful. Fit for a flamingo fairy.

Of course you can’t buy something as beautiful as this in a department store, but that makes it even more precious. I am very happy, that I found my personal favourite hatter: Pearls & Swine. Run by lovely Bink. This shop is a true wonderland and wearing the things makes you feel like a queen. Not just the creations from the homepage are great, the best is to talk to Bink and make your personal hat dreams come true with a bespoke piece. My favourite animal (besides the cat) is the flamingo, so that was my wish and of course Bink made it come true. The shiny bird was made better than I could dream of. I am in flamingo heaven now, where everything is pink and pretty!

The Moonbase Style

“Ufo” is a british science fiction series from the 70s. There is an alien invasion on earth in the near future of a fictional year 1980. A group of humans defends our planet and prevents mankind from being harvested for their organs by evil aliens. All in all it sounds like a typical science fiction story. The costume and stage design strongly reflects the 70s, like seen as well in other science fiction movies from this time, such as Barbarella (1968) or Logan’s Run (1978) for example. It has a the charm of an old low budget movie with a lot of creativity, but without the excessive computer effects of modern movies.

A friend of mine brought this series to my attention, because of a special hair style seen in it:
There are several female moonbase commanders, all of them wearing sexy silvery dresses and catsuits. They always have bold makeup and share the same hair style. It’s a bob, longer than mine at the back and it’s blow-dried with a round brush. The colour is a vibrant purple. The most surprising thing now is the fringe. It’s cut in a pointed shape, exactly the style which has become my trademark over the last few months. I didn’t see this kind of a fringe on other people very often. In an older post I described my fringe as the “Minnie Mouse Fringe“. Now I figured out there is a relation to science fiction as well with this series.

It was never explained why they choose this hair style in purple, but the director of the show Gerry Anderson has commented, that it filmed better under the bright lights (Source: Wikipedia). The actress didn’t had to dye the hair. They used very obviously wigs as a part of the concept. The purple wig should be seen as a part of the uniform of the moonbase commander. There have been attempts to give the wigs some sort of a scientific explanation: It was said that they protect the wearer from electromagnetic fields. (Source: www.ufoseries.com)

I think this hair and fringe style fits very well to the futuristic look of the series because it’s distinctive and a strong statement. To me it’s a very cool hair style and I see it as an important part of my own look. I can’t imagine to change it in the closer future: I hope it protects me like the wigs in the series and keep my eyes open for a silvery catsuit and adventures in outer space.

A ring like a ripe, purple grape and loads of bangles for much bling-bling in your life.

A melon not meant to eat, but to carry your belongings. There is even a melon-shaped purse hidden inside.

What is the acme of happiness? Maybe it’s something simple: Sometimes I imagine it’s a bowl of colourful and funny fruits sharing each others company. What could be merrier and filled with more lust for life? Fruits always seem to me like happy little things, healthy all over and always smiling at me. No matter if bananas, melons, strawberries, pineapples or grapefruits, they all have interesting shapes and very joyful colours.

That’s exactly why I love this mixed fruit t-shirt from Lazy Oaf so much: It’s covered in fruits all over and brings fun into every wardrobe. The design reminds me of my teenage years with it’s clearly 90s inspired style. While wearing it, I instantly feel better all the time. The fruits seem to enlighten and brighten up my mind and skin. Being dressed in brown and beige is really not my cup of tea, I prefer going crazy for melons and bananas!

Besides the 90s I have to think of cheeky Carmen Miranda a lot, while wearing this outfit. The gorgeous and unforgettable lady with the Tutti Frutti hat. In case you haven’t seen her in her fabulous hat, now is the moment! This video is so amazing, everyone should watch it at least once in a lifetime. I regret that I didn’t think about her, when I wrote my post about “Fabulous Hats in Movies” (sadly it’s in German for all the English readers). This breathtaking hat should have been in the Top Three! My mixed fruit t-shirt is clearly not as extravagant as her hats, but perfect for a day at work or in the city, just for every day! Go for one too if you could use a little bit of happiness in your wardrobe!

We Can Be Heroes (Just For One Day)

Batgirl is happy that she found her perfect bodysuit.

Maybe Batman will come around and join me.

Are there any bad guys out there?

I catch any villain for sure with my claws.

When everything is calm and silent I disappear between the buildings, into the darkness.

The city is safe during Batgirl’s watch and everyone can live without fear.

A mighty hero has special abilities and uses them to save the city and humanity. Who doesn’t adore the comic heroes and heroines such as Batman, Spiderman or Wonder Woman? They experience amazing stories, full of tension and valour. From all the comic book heroes, Batman has always been my favourite. He has style, elegance and he can melt into the shadows with his cool black suit. Batman drives the coolest Cars and he lives in a huge manor. He’s a true Mister Perfect, don’t you think? My excitement for this character was awaken again when Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie was close to come to the cinema.

A few weeks ago, Lazy Oaf announced their release of a Batman Collection. Of course I had to go for something from this collection straight away. There are many beautiful clothes and accessories for men and women, which made the decision difficult. In the end, my choice fell to this marvellous bodysuit. Every real heroine needs a bodysuit, don’t you think? Heroines don’t wear shirts, but always skintight suits.

Last weekend, my darling and me went to see the new Batman movie. Me in this outfit, he went for a batman t-shirt as well. People must have thought us being the biggest fans in the cinema. I am very glad that the movie didn’t disappoint us and I can proudly continue to wear my suit.

The Batman logo from the 90s is shown on the suit and I must say, I still prefer this to the new version of the logo. This one puts me back into the bubbly fantasy world of Tim Burton’s Batman. It’s far more colourful and quirky than Christopher Nolan’s more realistic version. If I would be in Burton’s Batman universe, I would be a bad, bad Batgirl and take the Penguin’s swan boat out for a ride, invite Michelle Pfeiffer dressed as Catwoman to join me and listen to David Bowie’s song “Heroes” together.

I am ready to clap my shoes and explore the wonderland of Oz.

Is fashion something shallow? Do you loose sight of the truly important questions in life if you occupy your mind too much with how to dress? A lot of people would agree, but I am convinced by the opposite: My wardrobe is a place full of tales about love, joy, tears and unexpected happenings, just as my bookshelf. The difference is, that clothes don’t tell stories about Mr. Darcey, Romeo and Juliet or Gulliver. They remind me of what I experienced while wearing them.

There is the dress I wore when I met my one true love, very close to my grandmother’s ear muffs and the shirt from last christmas party with my all my beloved. My clothes are as well souvenirs from all the places I visited. They keep a little bit of the spirit of countries form all over the world in my closet.

My outfit today just arrived in my life and it still needs to find it’s story. But it’s not blank as a white sheet, even now it knows a lot about overcoming temptation as well as about taking the bait:
I was in love with this vintage dress, when I spotted it in the webshop of Dotti’s, but tried to resist until someone else snatched it away. Later I figured out, the one who ordered it was not another girl, eager to wear it for a glittering summer, party but my darling. He couldn’t resist to buy it for me and made my eyes sparkle when I opened the box.

With the shoes it’s a similar story: It’s no secret that I am absolutely crazy about Melissa shoes. I am addicted to their distinctive bubblegum scent and the shiny jelly material. I am always waiting for their new collections like a little child is waiting for Santa Claus. This ones have been among my favorites of the recent summer collection but I’ve just seen them once in a shop in London and already had a bunch of shopping bags on my arm. I was browsing through a lot of online shops for them afterwards without success. A few weeks ago, I got a lovely voucher from Mirapodo and had a look at their good choice of products. That was when I found the magical red shoes again, on sale and available in my size. No need to guess that I took the bait.

This shoes and the beautiful dress must be destined to carry me into a story like Dorothy’s adventures in Oz, don’t you think so? I wish all my readers the experience of beautiful stories as well!

Lovely Sara on TV

Yesterday there was a documentary about London called “Hallo London” on the German TV channel called ZDF. I was seen for a very, very short glimpse. They asked me on my last trip to London if they might film me as an example of a fashionable girl in East London.

The documentary showed a few of my favourite places like Broadway Market, Brick Lane and the flower market at Columbia Road. I loved, that they focused on the East and skipped Buckingham Palace and the Wes Eend for once. The East is really the place to be and not just for the Olympics!

Once Upon a Time There Was a Flamingo

The flamingo was the most colorful spot in the gray city.

He was living in his own pink world, and he was very lucky that he was not gray.

He was living with a girl who loved him very much.

Sometimes he missed the company of other flamingos. The girl always comforted him.

They had a lot of fun together, but he wondered if he was the only flamingo.

She tried to fill his world with other pink things.

The girl told him that she would discover other flamingos for him.

She had to search the whole gray world.

Finally she found other flamingos and invited them to her balcony.

All of them were very lucky there and promised to stay forever in their pink world.

The rosy feathers and the long neck make the flamingo a very fascinating animal. They always look a little bit fragile on their thin legs and children wonder how this animals get their pink colour. I have to think about summer on a beach with coconut palm trees, when I see the picture of a flamingo.

But they are not just amazing animals: Made out of plastic the flamingo is one of the most widespread lawn ornament in the United states as well. The original plastic pink flamingo was designed by Don Featherstone in the year 1957. In 1966 it won the Ig Nobel Prize for Art. If it comes to garden decoration, the question is: Garden gnomes or flamingos? – Flamingos of course, would be my answer, without hesitating just a second! With their pink colour, they bring vibrance and brightness to a garden, no garden gnome could ever do.

Recently, two things happened making me a very happy flamingo girl:
First, my dearest friend came back from his internship in New York. Because he is a very sweet friend, he made a wish of this girl come true and took a big box filled with two original Don Featherstone flamingos with him as a gift. I was so happy to have my own flamingos finally.
While shopping in London, the second flamingo-moment happened, when my other beloved friend spotted an amazing flamingo shirt from the Brazilian born designer Fernando Viana. I didn’t know this designer before, but discovered that he is a big talent, creating amazing and unconventional fashion.

With all the new flamingo friends in my life, I decided to have a little party on my balcony. I love the contrast between my pink balcony and the big gray buildings surrounding the house. If feels like there is a little pink paradise in the pallid world. It’s a happy thing to be surrounded by so many flamingos, spreading summer feelings even during rainy days.

Let’s walk through the streets of London!

Back from my trip to London I still feel the energetic spirit of this city. I already have secret plans to go there again soon. In the meanwhile, all the little London-things in our flat and in my wardrobe must be enough to brighten my mind.

My whole outfit is very much inspired by London. I bought most of the things I wear on my last trip there. Maybe you already spotted them on my post “A Suitcase full of London”. Just the good austrian socks and my funny lipstick ring are no british treasures.

I think the biggest eye-catcher are the Tatty Devine Eyelash Glasses. Tatty Devine is one of the very few companies I have a close bonding to. I already have a collection of their jewellery and I love to visit their shop at Brick Lane whenever I’m close.

My perfect Sunday in London is to visit the flower market at Columbia Road, have lovely breakfast there and walk towards Brick Lane and the Tatty Devine shop. This time I bought no necklaces, but I was in love at first sight with this glasses. After trying them on I couldn’t leave without them without a broken heart. I think they are just made to go with a sharp and defined haircut as mine. This glasses are very fancy and quirky, exactly what I love. A lot of people ask me about them while I’m wearing them and many take out their camera for taking a picture.

Please, please, let me never break them, I already imagine me with 90, as an extravagant old lady, walking along the Thames and still wearing them from time to time. Maybe they would take my picture then for the Advanced Style blog. I would be very proud and tell them that they keep my powerful London spirit alive.
