So I tried to do it like them and protect myself with (fake) fur.

Protected against the cold like this, it is my pleasure to play with my cat outside.

As a symbol for my cat love, I wear hearts on my tights.

With this warm boots, the play outside can go on for hours.

Despite my longing for spring, it’s still winter and I want to show you another winter look. I couldn’t resist to show you my new cat bag from the Japanese label Ahcahcum with this outfit, I think it is one of my best latest purchases. My love for cats is without boundaries and I can never resist cat themed fashion or accessories. I grew up with a lot of cats. I loved to stroke their soft fur for hours and when I was sad, they comforted me. I wish I could have a cat again in the future. Meanwhile I am happy with visiting my mother and her cats and equipping myself with cat accessories.

Because the cat bag brings a lot of cuteness into the outfit and is a big eye catcher, I decided to go for a rather plain outfit in black and red. The look is a little bit fifties inspired with the petticoat and the hat, but the boots and tights bring in a modern touch. I am a big fan of the fake fur collar, it keeps me wonderful warm and I think it is far more ladylike than a scarf. It was a gift from lovely Tessa from Fashionresister, one of my dear blogger friends. We share a lot, like our love for Lazy Oaf, everything from Egypt and Kate Rohde. When we decided to send each other gifts, I was not surprised she sent me things I loved. She must have some superpowers, because the collar fits perfectly to the hat I bought just before I got her parcel and she couldn’t have known about. Hat and collar make a very elegant couple. Another love Tessa and me share, is for beautiful tights. So I was inspired to not go for opaque ones, like I do wear very often during the cold days, but choose more cheeky ones. It was less freezing than I thought it might be. What you can’t see: I am hiding warm socks in my boots.

I tried new makeup as well: For the first time, I use different colours for my upper and lower lip. I have seen this kind of makeup on other pages and liked it. The bright red from my lower lips fits to my earrings, the burgundy red resembles hat and collar. I used long-lasting lipsticks, I think with normal lipsticks the two colours might mix. I was wearing it for the whole day and it stayed very well, even after eating a lot of popcorn at the cinema. I think the people wouldn’t have noticed anyway: They were busy looking at my cat bag, with big eyes.

What do you think about this look? Are you a cat lover too?

It is not always easy to spread fun and colour. Nobody is free of sadness and desperation and there are moments of trouble in every story, as well in mine. There are times, when even Lovely Sara feels gray, week and uninspired. I try to keep this blog free of bad feelings, because this is a place for fashion fun, for happiness and positive feelings. My mission is to make you smile and to help you to never loose your inner rainbow. Today I want to tell you a little trick that cheers me up when I don’t feel happy: In dark moments I sometimes dream of running away and joining the circus. I am no performer, no fire-eater or tightrope dancer and I can’t juggle with balls. This means the chances that I will actually do it are pretty low and to be realistic, I don’t think I belong in a circus. Nevertheless it is a beautiful daydream and thinking about this place full of wonders helps me to find new energy.

Dressing myself in a colourful, whimsical fashion has a similar effect: I believe that colours have a positive effect on our wellbeing. Their power helps to feel better and stronger. Therefore this bright outfit is a huge dose of rainbow medicine. The pompom scarf from Irregular Choice keeps me not just bright, but warm as well and the fluffy fascinator from Pearls & Swine is made to spread happiness. This two items seem to smile at me constantly. They are the eye catchers of the outfit and the lace top from Zara and my vintage skirt don’t steal them the show, but complete the look in a beautiful way.

Inspired by Helena Bonham Carter’s appearance at the Golden Globes 2011, I choose to wear two different shoes (both Vivienne Westwood for Melissa) for this crazy outfit. I still don’t understand why all the newspapers made such a fuzz about Helena’s mismatched shoes. Do journalists have no sense for fun? People out there, don’t take everything too serious! There are enough occasions in life where seriousness is required, but fashion is none of them and is meant to be fun. Just wear whatever you love, don’t be too shy to make your crazy fashion dreams come true and most important: Don’t be afraid of what other people might say! People who don’t like you because you don’t wear black shoes all the time are not the friends you want to have anyway. Don’t dress like a wallflower, if your soul is a bird-of-paradise flower! If you love the circus, make yourself happy with including a little piece of this colourful world in your wardrobe.

Now please tell me, what do you think about my dream of the circus and my outfit.

I have already packed my bag. See you in rainbow land!

When it comes to art, Jeff Koons is one of the first artists I mention when asked about my favorites. His work is a dance on the border between cult and kitsch to me, there is humour in it and every artwork of his seems to twinkle with one eye. Koons’ art makes me happy, like a bright outfit does. Most of my other favourite artists, create dark, disturbing or surreal work and I think this has nothing to do with my taste in fashion (expect if I am in the gothic mood, which happens every now and then). Koons’ work on the other hand, walks hand in hand with all the other things I love in life, especially my taste of fashion: It’s like a dream from a world full of rainbows.

Do you remember my Art Inspires Fashion post about Jeff Koons? I wanted to wear the outfit since I posted it and couldn’t get it out of my mind. Now the moment is here and I can finally present you me wearing the Jeff Koon’s inspired outfit. It is not exactly the proposal from that post, but a little bit a changed version.  The multi sequin skirt from Asos, the Kate Rohde bangle and the Maison Martin Margiela for HM handbag, follow exactly the inspiration post. I combine them with similar pieces as proposed from my existing wardrobe. There is even a big improvement to the inspiration post: After posting it,  Pearls & Swine created this wonderful fascinator, which reminded me of Koons’ shiny tulip sculptures at first sight.

The fascinator is the key piece of the outfit, together with the handbag. The Maison Martin Margiela for HM bag fits very well, because Koons often reproduces everyday’s objects in oversized versions. This giant candy wrap follows a similar idea. The difference between it and a Koons artwork is, that I can use it to carry around my stuff, while Koons’ colossal sculptures are released from a practical use and wait for admiration only.

I just have to say something too about the Kate Rohde bangle: It’s a magical thing and I wear it like a talisman. I can watch again and again how it looks when the sun shines on it. It’s the most amazing bangle I ever had, it looks like it was made in a crystal wonderland, where Koons’ balloon dogs chase each other playing hide and seek. All in all, this outfit is the most colourful one, I showed you for a while and I think all the strong colours have a lot of positive energy. I hope you feel it too and it makes you smile.

So now I want to hear from you: How do you like this look?

Sweet vintage earrings, made of tiny bells. They slightly jingle when I move.
shoes, high heels, bordello, cheetah
Cheetah shoes and knee socks for a little bit of girlishness.

Surrealism in fashion had always some kind of a magical attraction to me. I love all the old pictures of Elsa Schiaparelli and her crazy creations, like the shoe hat or the hand belt. When I first discovered the Italian label Vivetta, I had to think immediately of Schiaparelli. Many of their designs look like a more cute and girly way of things, Elsa could have designed.

I won this amazing blouse from the current Vivetta collection in a competition at Dotti’s, one of my favourite stores in Zurich. Dotti’s started as a vintage store and still sells the most amazing dresses from past times. A few lovely labels such as Bernie Dexter, Vivetta and Frollein von Sofa, joined the shelfs recently. I am very delighted about my luck in the competition, because I secretly admired the blouse for a long time in Dotti’s online store.

The blouse is very smooth and elegant. It is probably the first white blouse I ever owned. I am always a little bit careful about wearing white. With my pale complexion and fair hair, I am afraid it might make me appear too pale. I would never wear white without makeup, but with a bright lipstick the look convinces me. The short skirt and knee socks makes the outfit cheeky, while the blouse is high-necked in a good girl manner. I think the finished look says “I am an elegant lady, but a cute school girl as well”. With this, I already found my perfect outfit for Valentine’s Day.

What do you think about this look and especially the blouse?

This is the first birthday of “Sara is in Love with….” One year full of quirky, colourful fashion. When I started this blog, I didn’t know a lot about blogging and during the year I made a lot of new experiences. First, I started to write in German, but changed to English after a few posts, because I feel more comfortable this way and to connect the blog with international readers is very important to me. At the moment, this blog has nearly 200 followers on Facebook and 170 on Google Friend Connect. I want to say a big, big thank you to every single one of you. A few of you write lots of charming comments and have become something like good friends even if we never met. Others are silently following and I just know their name from the blog list. Whoever you are, all of you are very welcome and I hope to bring a little bit of joy into your life with my posts. I received mails from lovely readers telling me, that my blog cheers them up when they are sad and inspires them to wear more colours. To hear things like this makes me very, very happy, because it’s exactly what I wish to. If just one of you gets a little bit happier by reading or seeing one of my posts, it was worth the time writing it.

One of my biggest goal is to stay true to the style of fashion I really love from the bottom of my heart. Everything I show here is truly what “Sara is in Love with…” and nothing else will ever make it to this blog. This is my promise to you and I think what makes this blog unique.

An increase of the number of readers means as well that I am confronted more often with offers from labels who want me to show something from their range. This is exciting, but it also means for me to make decisions. I already had to refuse a few offers which didn’t fit in, but I also got amazing opportunities. I wanna say thank you again to the fantastic labels and shops I collaborated with in the first year of “Sara is in Love with…”: Pearls & Swine, Collectif, Yiddish Chutzpah and Mirapodo, I loved to show your amazing fashion and hope we will have the chance do work together again.

I am very excited, what year two will bring for Sara is in Love with…” and hope this blog will grow and evolve. I can’t say where the journey will lead, but I assure you, it will be a journey on a rainbow, full of fancy fashion in all the colours of the world. Thank you all so very much for supporting this blog and I am happy to have such wonderful readers as you!

Sara is in Love with all of you!

Pictures: This is an overview of all the outfits I showed you during the first year of “Sara is in Love with…”. Do you have any favorites?

Frilled Socks are a big love of mine. They make you feel instantly girly, you all should try!

Let’s talk about something we never did before: Body shapes. When I was a teenager, I was very thin and lived with the sweet illusion to have a body not unlike the ladies in the glossy magazines. Then I grew into a woman with bold curves, a very tiny waist and wide hips. I always accepted myself the way I am and believe that every body shape has it’s own beauty. But let’s face it: Your shape is responsible for what you wear to a good part. A girl like me for example just doesn’t look good in skinny jeans, while not all my clothes might look well on someone with a completely different shape.

I started talking about this now for a special reason: My outfit from Collectif. I am not a 50s girl from head to toe as you all know, but there has always been a strong influence of the 50s in my style. A lot of the clothes from this time are very flattering for curvy girls and that’s one reason why I love them. To my delight, nowadays there are a lot of beautiful shops selling 50s inspired clothes. Collectif is one of my very favourite ones and has an amazing selection of feminine, flattering clothes. I love the skirt called Liesel, I’m wearing on the picture. It’s a circle skirt with detachable braces. You can believe me, there is nothing as beautiful as a circle skirt for a curvy body! It shows a tiny waist in the best light and doesn’t interfere with wide hips. You can wear it with a petticoat or without. If you leave out the petticoat, it will look less dramatic. I think I’ll wear it that way for work.

My top is from Collectif too and called Freddie. It’s a classic 50s style knitted top and a perfect match for the skirt. It has an adorable floral knit pattern and the pearl buttons add elegance to the look. The colour is so pretty. It’s a little bit like mint, but darker. It makes me dream of mermaids, deep under the sea. Collectif gave this colour the beautiful name “antique green”.

Maybe because my thoughts about King Neptun and his beautiful daughters, I didn’t wear high heels but waterproof, cheeky jelly booties from Mel. I feel very well dressed like this. I catch a lot of people staring at my skirt with shining eyes. I think this look is elegant, but not over the top. It’s just perfect for having a cup of tea with my girlfriends and a big piece of cake to please my curves.

What are your thoughts about this look and did you know Collectif already?
How do you feel about your body shape and what suits it best?

Bordello, high heels, black, shiny
The highest pair of shoes I own from Bordello.

I wish you all a wonderful New Year’s Eve ! I do have a little story about this special day just for you: Once, there was a girl, she dreamed of New Year’s Eve. She longed to wear an opulent outfit and have her darling take her out to an opulent party with all the luxury in the world. He would hold open the door for her and help her out of her fur cape. They would drink Champagne from crystal glasses and dance tight to the song “I’ll be seeing you” from Billie Holiday (just click play on the video at the bottom of the post and you will hear this song while you read). Later, they would watch the fireworks together and kiss each other while saying hello to the new year. They would look deep into each others eyes and promise to love each other forever.

I present you the outfit I imagine this girl could wear. It is a mix of new, old and vintage pieces: This beautiful dress I found at HM a few years ago. I think it would be perfect for this occasion with it’s elegant emerald green colour. If I combine it with the bolero from Viven of Holloway, I feel dressed well. The white vintage fake fur cape keeps warm and the beautiful hat from Collectif completes the look. Of course I am wearing the highest heels I own to make my legs as long as possible. This Bordello shoes are surprisingly comfortable if you consider their hight.

The brooch is a special piece from my beloved friends and fabulous designers Azumi and David from London. They are an incredibly lovely and charming couple and their designs often have a surprising or surreal touch. If you ever look for a special handbag, you should have a look at their heeled handbags. The bangle is from the Anna Dello Russo for HM collection to show my adoration for amazing Anna. The necklace is from my mother with a lot more adoration donated to this special woman.

I wish the girl in the story was me, but it is not this year. Maybe next year? The beauty of unfulfilled dreams is, you can continue dreaming. Unfortunately I am sick at home. I am glad that we took this pictures already last week, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to show you this look. So I go back and hide under my blankets and wish you all the best, have a lot of love and joy this night and in 2013! Thank you for reading my posts and all your lovely comments!

Collectif, coat, winter, retro
A white wonderland with just a tiny hint of purple.

fake fur, retro, coat, armcuffs
Gently flattered by fake fur sleeves. No animal was hurt and the game is still in the forest.
creepers, golden socks, wedges, London
Snow, you can’t stop the mighty creepers!

Why do the naked trees always seem to be sad? Why can’t I stop missing the sound of the birds and the scent of the flowers? I am here, trying to bring a hint of purple and a couple of blossoms into this white winter world. For this mission, I made myself a big bold flower crown. It already had a few appearances on my head while I was in London. Many daring people asked me to try it on, even some male ones and complete strangers. I never got so many compliments for any other accessory before. If you have ever worn a crown like this, you will understand: Wearing it makes you feel different immediately. You become something between a saint and a queen. You can imagine being Virgin Mary, Frida Kahlo or Cicciolina, whoever inspires you most.

My new coat from Collectif enhances that feeling of elegance, my crown gives me. With its cosy fake fur collar I don’t even need a scarf. The buttons with the dried flowers inside, are somehow melancholic and romantic at the same time. They are like a little souvenir from past summer to me.

Before you ask if I don’t get frozen legs, I tell you a little secret: I do layer tights and wear up to three pairs of them on top of each other. Together with the socks, my legs are as comfortable as possible. But even dressed like this, I prefer to hurry inside as soon as possible. If I would be a product and come with a tag, on mine would be written “not for outdoor use” for sure. I always try to get excited about outdoor activities, but to be honest it’s more force than joy most of the time. I could sit forever on the sofa with a mug of hot tea, reading a gripping book on the other hand. Being outside is never the goal for me, but just a necessity on my way from A to B and for that I don’t need to dress up as a Yeti. I’ll be back in a cosy house before my flower crown is covered with snow anyway and I’m sure my brave little flowers appreciate this.

How do you like my flower crown and my new coat?

Candy mania: I wish I could eat them all…
pink, shoes, jelly, sandals
Jelly sundae: Even the shoes look like dessert.

Look what arrived in my mailbox: It’s the “Caramelos” dress from Yiddish Chutzpah! With all the snow outside I don’t dare to wear my new dress outside, but I love to turn the house floor into my catwalk. I just couldn’t wait to share it with you. I feel like a little candy fairy. The dress fits perfectly and the pattern made by Gema of Yiddish Chutzpah is adorable. My darling was bedazzled when he saw me and we started to dream of a picnic next spring. The magic of cute and pink things has a lot of power over me and this dress makes me happy a lot. Actually it was just the right thing to get rid of my winter mood.

Girls are not just craving for candy, but for glitter too! I have this as well: The pink fascinator from Peals & Swine is a bright glitter star. Tinker Bell would be jealous and I almost expected it to turn my lollipop into a ward and spread sparkles all around. It’s as well a cool fascinator for a christmas outfit, if you don’t play the summer girl at the moment.

My Lolita look gave me the opportunity to wear girly jelly shoes. Of course not elegant high heels, but cute ones made for running over meadows and catching butterflies. I could wear this comfortable shoes from Juju all the time. Especially with cute socks, they look very girly. To complete the look I went into a place I loved since I was a little girl: The candy store. I always had a sweet tooth and it was fun to wear candy jewellery again. I couldn’t resist to eat a lot of it right after the shooting. If the candy on the dress would be edible, I’m afraid it would be gone too.

I hope this outfit put you into a sweet mood and made you forget about the nasty weather outside. Are you enchanted by dress and fascinator, my lovelies?

On my jelly shoes, I travel around the galaxy and watch out for aliens.

When we did this shooting, the sun was finally back after many cold and rainy days. With the sun came a little part of summer-me back and I felt very hungry for colours. It was just the perfect day to wear my new galaxy peplum and go for a crazy look! I have to say a huge big thank you to Fashion Hayley: She showed this top on her blog and looked so marvellous in it, I just had to buy it too. When she had it on, she was called Kim Stardashian and I perfectly know why: The top makes a girl feel extremely curvy. The waist looks absolutely slim in it and hips and butt wide. At the beginning I was a bit sceptical about this shape, but my darling convinced me that there is no need for that. I would have kept it anyway, because I love the pattern and colours. It’s kind of a cosmic print, but unlike all the galaxy prints seen at the moment, more abstract and colour wise different. I combine it with a plain pencil skirt, to give all the attraction to the top.

I am wearing my grandma’s earmuffs as well. They make people not think of Kim, but of Princess Leia from Star Wars. Together with the galaxy print of the top an intergalactic combination, don’t you think? This earmuffs are actually one of the very few things I have from my grandma and I’m very proud on them. Unfortunately they are real fur, which I would never buy. Since they are most certainly more than 50 years old I make an exception. They make me feel like my beloved grandma is close to me.

I added glitter to my nails and to my eye makeup to complete the galaxy look. Together with my lilac Lime Crime lipstick (Airborne Unicorn) and teal coloured accessories (Necklace: Tenebris, Bag and Bangles: Becksöndergaard, Shoes: Melissa) I think this Princess Leia is ready to show up on the purple planet!

How do you like this outfit? Aren’t the colours a true energy booster?
