Let’s go and get more ice cream!

Once upon a time, there was a melon girl. She loved to eat melon for breakfast, lunch, dinner and between the meals as well. But what she loved even more, was to dress like one. The rule of her life was, that if you feel to dress like a melon, you should just do it. The same rule applies for bananas, apples, and other funny things as well of course.

Dressed colourful she feels strong and like being reborn. It’s like a metamorphosis, when she gets dressed. The mousy caterpillar turns into a butterfly. She might be a little bit eccentric sometimes, but she embraces it instead of denying. When it comes to crazy fashion looks, she rather asks “Why not?”, instead of “Why?”. She loves to have a concept for her looks, best from head to toe. So why not even matching the ice cream to the look? She doesn’t care if you shake your head and enjoys her sweet dessert. Some people might call her look a disguise and fit for carnival, but she objects. There is no such a thing as a costume in her world, every dress is a new way to express some part of her personality and she has so many parts to discover yet. She was not born a bold girl, but she refuses to be something she is not. This is melon girl, this is colourful happiness and yes: This is me, Lovely Sara.

I hope you love this post and feel encouraged to dress up now too. Wish I could see all my pretty readers, I imagine we would make the most amazing rainbow together.

We can enjoy the afternoon in this pink garden.

Wow look at all the pink trees outside, isn’t it breathtaking? Pink has always been one of my favourite colours. There was a time, back at School of Arts, long, long time ago, when I dressed in no other colour. I am not that singleminded anymore, but pink occupies still a big space in my heart. My heart started to beat faster when I saw the flower trees outside and I just had to be the pink girl under the pink tree. My outfit is a lot of vintage inspired, I feel like a modest 50s housewife from an advertisement. This image of a woman fascinates me, always pretty, with a bright smile and perfect nails and makeup.

My skirt is indeed made from an original vintage pattern. After discovering this skirt, I couldn’t get it out of my head again. The shape is just perfect and I love the silhouette it makes. I bought it at The Black Pinafore, it’s the Etsy Store from Debora, a lovely dress maker from Italy. She is a diploma costume designer and loves the 40s and 50s. I could just send her my measurements and she made this wonderful skirt for me. I was able to choose the fabric, buttons and length of the skirt. When it arrived I was very pleased, because it fits perfectly and looks even more beautiful than I expected. I just had to wear it, go outside with it as fast as possible and show it to you surrounded by this dreamy location. I am always surprised again and again, how close from the city beautiful places like this exist. It looks like I am in an enchanted garden at the countryside, but it’s just a few steps away from the big apartment blocks of the city. Even a cat wanted to be part of my pictures and she was very stubborn in staying exactly under the same tree I wanted to take my pictures. But I think she just made the pictures perfect.

I hope you enjoy spring as much as I do my lovelies. What do you think about this outfit?

It’s definitely time for ice cream now! Which is your favourite flavor? I can’t decide, because I love all the pretty pastel colours at the ice cream parlour. This outfit brings all of them together: Baby Pink like strawberry, lemon yellow, berry purple and blue like the mysterious ice cream called “smurfs”. The outfit starts with a cone on the head and ends with one at the heel. Both of this pieces made me shriek out with pleasure when I saw them first. I think the fascinator from Pearls & Swine and the shoes from Karl Lagerfeld from Melissa are perfection. I need both of them in my life for my perfect summer feeling, don’t you agree?

I would love to play a little game and pretend that I work at an ice cream parlour, providing all of you with the most delicious ice cream you ever tasted. I would wear my cone fascinator every day and sell pistachio, vanilla and coconut. An ice cream girl dressed like this would be the attraction of the city for sure!

Don’t you think this outfit is sweeter than any flavour of ice cream?

Hello, nice to meet you, I am Lovely Sara.
My world is full of hearts, bows and polka dots.
I love red lipstick and feel the happiest with a big bow on my head.
Bilder hochladen
My heart beats for fashion.
I love all the colours, but a vibrant red always makes me dance.
I am obsessed with jelly shoes and want to look lovely from head to toe all the time.

When I started my blog, the first thing I did was to design a logo. The little comic icon I created includes the most characteristic things of my look: My bob haircut with fringe, a big bow headband and red lips. I added a big heart as a symbol for my never ending love for creative fashion.

The icon is me and I am the icon. I think I didn’t just create it, but it also shaped me. I began to turn more and more into Lovely Sara. Therefore it’s strange, I never showed an outfit post dressed like the Logo-Sara. I am very delighted, I can finally do this and say: Hello, nice to meet you, I am Lovely Sara. I love all the colours of the rainbow and my style is full of many influences from the 50s to Japanese Street Styles to Pop Culture, but this look (you might call it the “Lovely Sara Look”) is always a favourite. I feel very well dressed with a big bow and a polka dot dress and I think it’s visible on the pictures. The look is a little bit Minnie Mouse inspired with a retro touch. I can’t explain, but wearing bows makes me happy. This one in shiny PVC from The Velvet Village especially.

Being Lovely Sara feels like what I always wanted to be. It’s the result of an uncompleted, but already very long journey. When I was a teenager I didn’t know as much is I do now about who I really am.  I think most people are not born with their style, but their taste and understanding of style is growing and getting more particularly over the years. Style needs experience. Another thing I learned since I am a teenager is to expect that there is no stereotypic me, but I am made of thousands of facets and can’t be put into a box. When I was younger, I always tried to fit myself into a box, because I thought this would tell me where I do belong. Am I a goth, a punk, a vintage vixen? It was a long journey to see, that I am neither. I am a Minnie Mouse today, the next day a colourful circus performer, a pink flamingo girl or an elegant retro lady. Being so many different things doesn’t mean to loose myself, like I was afraid at first, but it is who I really am. I think people are not made to fit into a box, but to be a mixture of millions of things, made by their individual story. Like a complex menu with many ingredients and spices to create a unique taste. I don’t wear the Lovely Sara Look every day, but I am always Lovely Sara, changing and turning more into my real me.

How do you like the “Lovely Sara Look”?

It is not always easy to spread fun and colour. Nobody is free of sadness and desperation and there are moments of trouble in every story, as well in mine. There are times, when even Lovely Sara feels gray, week and uninspired. I try to keep this blog free of bad feelings, because this is a place for fashion fun, for happiness and positive feelings. My mission is to make you smile and to help you to never loose your inner rainbow. Today I want to tell you a little trick that cheers me up when I don’t feel happy: In dark moments I sometimes dream of running away and joining the circus. I am no performer, no fire-eater or tightrope dancer and I can’t juggle with balls. This means the chances that I will actually do it are pretty low and to be realistic, I don’t think I belong in a circus. Nevertheless it is a beautiful daydream and thinking about this place full of wonders helps me to find new energy.

Dressing myself in a colourful, whimsical fashion has a similar effect: I believe that colours have a positive effect on our wellbeing. Their power helps to feel better and stronger. Therefore this bright outfit is a huge dose of rainbow medicine. The pompom scarf from Irregular Choice keeps me not just bright, but warm as well and the fluffy fascinator from Pearls & Swine is made to spread happiness. This two items seem to smile at me constantly. They are the eye catchers of the outfit and the lace top from Zara and my vintage skirt don’t steal them the show, but complete the look in a beautiful way.

Inspired by Helena Bonham Carter’s appearance at the Golden Globes 2011, I choose to wear two different shoes (both Vivienne Westwood for Melissa) for this crazy outfit. I still don’t understand why all the newspapers made such a fuzz about Helena’s mismatched shoes. Do journalists have no sense for fun? People out there, don’t take everything too serious! There are enough occasions in life where seriousness is required, but fashion is none of them and is meant to be fun. Just wear whatever you love, don’t be too shy to make your crazy fashion dreams come true and most important: Don’t be afraid of what other people might say! People who don’t like you because you don’t wear black shoes all the time are not the friends you want to have anyway. Don’t dress like a wallflower, if your soul is a bird-of-paradise flower! If you love the circus, make yourself happy with including a little piece of this colourful world in your wardrobe.

Now please tell me, what do you think about my dream of the circus and my outfit.

Has plastic a strong attraction to you and have you been waiting for more hot pink plastic to appear in women’s fashion? The paradise for all Barbie girls, living in a plastic world is finally here and a lot of plastic clothes and accessories are ready for you in the shops. These bright coloured pieces will bring a little bit of Barbie into your life. You can combine them with plain pieces in dark colours if you don’t want to be too colourful, but I think they will look best with patterned fabrics and even a little bit of neon. There are a lot of black and white graphical patterns in the spring/summer collections of many designers. At first sight it seemed to be disappointing for colour lovers, but combined with pink plastic they will make a fabulous look no doubt.

In my opinion, the best piece from this collection is the jacket. I was waiting for exactly this kind of jacket forever, until Topshop made my dream come true. To make my excitement even bigger, they designed an equally wonderful skirt as well. The handbag is something for girls who don’t have to hide something. My Barbie had a bag like this in yellow neon. If you have just beautiful things in it like the pink sunglasses or the bow hair clips, it will be wonderful.

So what are you waiting for: Get some hot pink plastic, go out with Ken and live your Barbie life!
Which piece is your favourite?

Are you curious year after year, which colour is chosen by Pantone as the colour of the year? I always can’t wait to know and this year I especially love the chosen colour: 2012 was the year of Tangerine Tango, 2013 is the year of Emerald. Pantone says about Emerald: “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A colour of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” I absolutely agree with this statement!

As you might have noticed, emerald appears again and again in my outfits. I have the feeling that it enhances not just my well-being, but the colour of my complexion as well. I never feel ugly, while wearing emerald. I didn’t know about the colour of the year, when I chose my New Year’s Eve outfit, now it makes me smile that I even called the post “Emerald Fireworks”. What a promising start of the year!

If you don’t wear emerald, I strongly recommend it to you. It’s an absolutely flattering colour and makes you dream about the Emerald City in the Land of Oz, where everything is built of emeralds, other jewels and green glass. I think this colour makes every girl pretty, no matter what skin or hair colour she has.

Do you think Emerald is a good choice as colour of the year and will you wear it?

Frilled Socks are a big love of mine. They make you feel instantly girly, you all should try!

Let’s talk about something we never did before: Body shapes. When I was a teenager, I was very thin and lived with the sweet illusion to have a body not unlike the ladies in the glossy magazines. Then I grew into a woman with bold curves, a very tiny waist and wide hips. I always accepted myself the way I am and believe that every body shape has it’s own beauty. But let’s face it: Your shape is responsible for what you wear to a good part. A girl like me for example just doesn’t look good in skinny jeans, while not all my clothes might look well on someone with a completely different shape.

I started talking about this now for a special reason: My outfit from Collectif. I am not a 50s girl from head to toe as you all know, but there has always been a strong influence of the 50s in my style. A lot of the clothes from this time are very flattering for curvy girls and that’s one reason why I love them. To my delight, nowadays there are a lot of beautiful shops selling 50s inspired clothes. Collectif is one of my very favourite ones and has an amazing selection of feminine, flattering clothes. I love the skirt called Liesel, I’m wearing on the picture. It’s a circle skirt with detachable braces. You can believe me, there is nothing as beautiful as a circle skirt for a curvy body! It shows a tiny waist in the best light and doesn’t interfere with wide hips. You can wear it with a petticoat or without. If you leave out the petticoat, it will look less dramatic. I think I’ll wear it that way for work.

My top is from Collectif too and called Freddie. It’s a classic 50s style knitted top and a perfect match for the skirt. It has an adorable floral knit pattern and the pearl buttons add elegance to the look. The colour is so pretty. It’s a little bit like mint, but darker. It makes me dream of mermaids, deep under the sea. Collectif gave this colour the beautiful name “antique green”.

Maybe because my thoughts about King Neptun and his beautiful daughters, I didn’t wear high heels but waterproof, cheeky jelly booties from Mel. I feel very well dressed like this. I catch a lot of people staring at my skirt with shining eyes. I think this look is elegant, but not over the top. It’s just perfect for having a cup of tea with my girlfriends and a big piece of cake to please my curves.

What are your thoughts about this look and did you know Collectif already?
How do you feel about your body shape and what suits it best?

Christmas is the time of the angels and as well the opportunity for you to become one! All you need to spread your wings are the right accessories. There is a heavenly touch for every kind of outfit: A winged backpack for your casual outfits (Lostmannequin), an elegant fascinator for going out in the evening (Pearls & Swine), jelly shoes for dancing like a disco angel (Vivienne Westwood for Melissa at Asos) and jewellery for everyday (Ring from Wildfox at Jades24, Necklace from Tatty Devine).

As a little girl, I played an angel in the Christmas play at our school. I had long blond hair and my mother curled it for me. My halo was made of golden cardboard and I wore a long white dress (probably made of curtain fabric). Our lovely teacher was the makeup artist and used a lot of glitter and light pink lipstick to finish the look. I always loved to dress up, to act and to sing. Doing all this things while being dressed up as an angel was a lot of excitement for a little girl.

This accessories remind me of that moment and give me a warm feeling. I just can’t decide which of this wings shall be mine… What do you like best?

When we did this shooting, the sun was finally back after many cold and rainy days. With the sun came a little part of summer-me back and I felt very hungry for colours. It was just the perfect day to wear my new galaxy peplum and go for a crazy look! I have to say a huge big thank you to Fashion Hayley: She showed this top on her blog and looked so marvellous in it, I just had to buy it too. When she had it on, she was called Kim Stardashian and I perfectly know why: The top makes a girl feel extremely curvy. The waist looks absolutely slim in it and hips and butt wide. At the beginning I was a bit sceptical about this shape, but my darling convinced me that there is no need for that. I would have kept it anyway, because I love the pattern and colours. It’s kind of a cosmic print, but unlike all the galaxy prints seen at the moment, more abstract and colour wise different. I combine it with a plain pencil skirt, to give all the attraction to the top.

I am wearing my grandma’s earmuffs as well. They make people not think of Kim, but of Princess Leia from Star Wars. Together with the galaxy print of the top an intergalactic combination, don’t you think? This earmuffs are actually one of the very few things I have from my grandma and I’m very proud on them. Unfortunately they are real fur, which I would never buy. Since they are most certainly more than 50 years old I make an exception. They make me feel like my beloved grandma is close to me.

I added glitter to my nails and to my eye makeup to complete the galaxy look. Together with my lilac Lime Crime lipstick (Airborne Unicorn) and teal coloured accessories (Necklace: Tenebris, Bag and Bangles: Becksöndergaard, Shoes: Melissa) I think this Princess Leia is ready to show up on the purple planet!

How do you like this outfit? Aren’t the colours a true energy booster?
