Four years of pink hair, one year since I wrote a pink hair guide and now it’s time to make some additions and tell you about my latest hair care tricks. Pink – or colourful hair in general – has reached a wider spreading in the meantime, and a lot of brands answered the call with new products created for the specific needs.

One of the biggest problems of colourful hair is the fading. Resisting the urge to wash your hair every day and using the right shampoos helps a little (and washing your hair with cold water would, but: Eeeeeek, that is no option!), but can’t stop the process. Don’t despair; there are products making your love story last longer. Here we go with my favourite darlings:

Overtone Pastel Pink Daily Conditioner
Use this conditioner every time you wash your hair, and the mild formula adds colour while moisturizing it. I used to dye my hair every week; now I’m down to every two or even three weeks thanks to this deliciously smelling conditioner. My hair feels more healthy than it did for a long time.

Overtone Go Deep Pastel Pink Weekly Treatment
The second weapon to fight the fading from Overtone. Once a week your hair deserves an extra rich and conditioning treatment! It only takes 10 to 15 minutes and makes your hair less dry than your homemade mix of conditioner and dye.

Colorista Spray
I bet this hair disaster sounds familiar: You just freshly dyed your hair, and it didn’t turn out even. You can either curse and wear a cap for the next days or follow my clever solution: This spray. Just add a few dashes to your dry hair, and you are ready in no time. Use it on any colour of hair (besides black and very dark brown) for a touch of pink that washes out the next day. I only wish it came in bigger bottles cause I am addicted…

If you have questions about my hair care, please feel free to ask in the comments below. You can buy Overtone here, Colorista should be available at your local pharmacy.

“I have nothing to wear” I sometimes hear myself say when I stand in front of my wardrobe. Every girl might know this problem, but as a fashion blogger, the pressure to have something new all the time is especially significant. After all: What outfits shall I shoot if I don’t stock up my wardrobe consistently?

But where is the sustainability in this behaviour, where is the sweetness of wearing something you love for years till it looks so worn you have to give it away? Among fashion people, only the new is chic. Fashion is less about personal style than about a dictate of novelty. Labels and designers constantly tell their customers what’s hot right now and what you bought a few weeks ago will be “so last season” in the blink of an eye.

So what shall we do: Join the run and cheer for the new month after month or step away and just trust our taste? At the moment, the answer is a mixture of both, just like this look: One new piece (the skirt), everything else oldies but goodies from my wardrobe. This is all it needs for an entirely new look. My advice: Experiment with what you have in your wardrobe and style it new again and again!

Once upon a time, there was a little mermaid, her name was Ariel. While she was charming and had a happy life under the sea, it couldn’t stop her from feeling she was missing something and dreaming of being a human. All she ever wanted was having legs to dance and walk. While her sisters thought this dream was a rather weird desire, I wonder if other mermaids shared Ariel’s dream.

I experience strange stories while I sleep as well: A few days ago, I encountered myself in a dream. I had long hair in an unremarkable dark blond colour (my natural one), was wearing ugly glasses, no makeup at all and my outfit was a combination of denim trousers with a plain white t-shirt. I worked in a pharmacy, was very shy and could blend into every crowd without being noticed.

I woke up feeling confused. The dream-me was so unlike I see myself, but yet the same. What an awkward feeling! She seemed to be a canvas that didn’t catch the attention of an artist: Plain, unremarkable and –forgive me for saying – ugly. Unfinished. I feel grateful for not being that girl when I could have.

You might say the difference between real-me and this dream-me is just a question of style, but I have to disagree: I bet this girl wouldn’t meet the same kind of people I do, would not have this blog and probably not even spend the life with the same man. Influenced by her surroundings, she would develop other interests and in the end, become a person unlike all what defines me.

So mermaids, better not dream about having legs and be grateful the way you are! There is a reason your life turned out just the way it is and every single decision you take, every outfit you wear and every smile that lights up your face brought you were you are, step by step.

I am mermaid-crazy, not just since they are super-trendy, but it already started in my childhood. I can still sing a few songs from Ariel the Little Mermaid (my first CD ever) and have the movie on my shelf and don‘t care if anybody thinks this is childish. I believe we should never stop dreaming about fairy tales, no matter how old we are.

When I found this cute pastel cardigan it was like a jackpot: If there is anything better than mermaids, it must be mermaid cats! Imagine a bunch of fluffy cats with fish tails having adventures in the sea. Their mighty mercat-king is always swimming ahead with its trident; others play the underwater harp and catch mer-mice. I make strange sounds whenever I see a cat, just thinking about their fish-tailed fantasy relatives makes me giddy.

The baby blue top/dress (not so sure how to call it) is like made for a mermaid outfit: Doesn‘t it look like a siren‘s tail? I shopped this look when I was in London a few weeks ago, and therefore it reminds me of the beautiful days I spent there. I even had a bath in a bubble pool wearing those clothes at the Galeria Melissa (see post here). I was so excited I even lost my sunglasses in the pool. Luckily it was a cheap pair, not my Miu Miu glasses.

Life under the sea isn’t without dangers; every mermaid needs to know…

What is the ultimate look? If you even succeed in finding a surrounding that perfectly matches all your rainbow pastels! What I love about styling is when things finally come together, and there is that tingling in the air telling you it’s going to be a perfect match. Every piece you style into a look is just a piece of fabric, but if you mix them with joy and enthusiasm, you can create a beautiful composition. Styling is like music to me: Every tone needs to be right for a perfect melody. The air seems to hum if you achieve this.

Sometimes I play with a particular style for days in my thoughts till I believe that everything is the way it was meant to be. I imagine how an outfit would change if I choose just a different accessory or try an entirely different colour palette, always with the goal to find a balance between harmony and tension. This is the difference for me between being dressed in a merely functional way to avoid being naked and styling.

Making outfits can almost be like inventing characters for a fictional story: I can be the dreamy pastel princess, the elegant vamp, the funky retro girl or the sporty chic. You will judge me by what you see, but because I change day after day, your judgement might be heavily influenced by the day you meet me. The outfit can be the killer or the hero of the story.

Fashion, I love you so so much, you are my favourite playground. I hope you can feel the excitement I put into this look as well lovelies!

olaplex, hair care, care for bleached hair

A lot of you guys ask me for advice on dying your hair pink and what products I use. Therefore, I hope you enjoy this guide filled with the wisdom taught by living the dream of a pink-haired girl for three years.

The decision: Say yes to the pink way of life

If you play with the thought of dying your hair pink, let me tell you: It’s not a decision lightly taken. It will mean that you have to invest a lot of money and even more time into your mane to make this rosy dream come (and stay) true. Besides, be aware this colour is a statement and it will influence how people judge you and maybe even the kind of jobs you will get. Pink is certainly not for everybody. Once gone pink, there is no fast way back.

The bleaching: Don’t do this at home

For a lovely shade of pink, there is no way around bleaching your hair. The darker your natural colour is, the more it will take. I strongly recommend having your hair bleached by a hairdresser. Bleach can be dangerous if not applied the right way, so please don’t do this at home.

My hairdresser uses Olaplex while bleaching and I couldn’t be happier. Olaplex reconnects the broken bonds in your hair and helps to prevent breakage. Although you hear about miracles in hair care every week, this one is really a game changer and I can’t imagine living without it! My hair used to break and I used to lose quite some hair before I discovered Olaplex. It brought my mane back to a far healthier state. Olaplex is a three-step treatment: Step one goes into the bleach, step two is applied right afterwards. The third and final step is a take-home treatment you can use once a week as a deep conditioning mask.

Since hair grows fast (about one centimetre a month) you will need to fresh up your roots about every four to six weeks. Better select a lovely hair stylist, cause you will see each other a lot of from now on 😉

The most exciting part: Turning into a walking candy floss

No comes the fun part: After bleaching it your hair is white as a fairy and this means it’s time to add your favourite colour called pink. Unlike with more natural hair colours, there is no permanent pink dye. Your colour, especially if it’s a pastel shade of pink will wash out very fast. I tried many different labels of hair dye, but the effect is mostly the same.

I like best to mix my shade of pink with Joica Vero-K Pak ruby red, a hint of purple and conditioner. Don’t worry too much about the right mixture of dye and conditioner: If the result turns out too bright, it’s not going to stay for a long time.

The Washing: Your hair will suffer from Aquaphobia from now on

You love it if your hair smells like fresh roses? Then I have very bad news for you: From now on your hair will hate to be washed and with every touch of water your perfect shade of pink will fade. I used to wash my hair every day and it felt like straw. At the moment, I am down to every second day and it helps to increase the quality of my hair. I believe that using a good shampoo and never go without a generous amount of conditioner is crucial; my favourites are the Joico K-Pak shampoo and conditioner.

If you feel that your shade of pink needs a slight touch up, you can use a coloured shampoo like the Rosé shampoo from Bleach London to add a hint of colour. Since my hair doesn’t feel very soft after using it, I can’t recommend it as a daily shampoo. The Bleach London hair crayons are a handy trick to freshen up the roots and cover wisps lacking pink. If you don’t have a crayon ready, you can use a pink blush as a makeshift.

Dry shampoo is going to be your best friend:: It will help you to survive days without washing your hair, make it smell lovely and as an incredible bonus add texture. I am a big fan of the products of Baptiste, they have the cutest designs and come in a lot of different scents. Even better news: They are quite inexpensive, yay!

hair oil, hair care, john frieda

The other good friends: Hair Care

No wonder hair oil can’t make come true
Hair oil is another miraculous weapon in hair care and my favourite product. It’s what poor bleached hair dreams of to keep it soft, makes it shine, helps against frizz and smells so so delicious. My favourites are the John Frida Frizz Ease hair oil and the Redken diamond-oil and I use both of them alternatively.

Avoid the sun like a pink vampire or use SPF
Not just washing makes your pink fade but as well the sun. Therefore, I recommend to either avoid it or use SPF on your hair. My tip is Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil.

Pink saints avoid heat
But we can’t all be saints, and I am a serious sinner… If you can’t avoid to blow dry or straighten your hair, use a heat protectant – like the Joico Ironclad – and a good quality flat iron. Sorry for mentioning Joico again (no, this post is not sponsored by them) but I am very fond of the Joico styler. It repairs and protects your hair because it works with a keratin fuel that is poured into your hair while using it.

The cutting: You just need to let go

Your hair might have more split-ends now and needs this to look healthy and tidy. I have my hair cut whenever I have the roots bleached; this means every four to six weeks.

The cleaning: Your bathroom doesn’t have to copy your look

One point many guides on pink hair don’t mention: You’ll have to put more effort into cleaning if you don’t want your bathroom tiles to look just like your head. I strictly get rid of all rests of dye right after washing it out, and my tiles are as white as a smile from a toothpaste advertising. But I’ve seen else at friends homes…

The happy end: Having pink powers

I’ve been dying my hair pink for the first time in 2013 and I never regretted it. I love having a candy floss mane and believe it shaped the person I am. When people call me “the pink girl” I broadly smile and I developed a thick skin to overhear comments such as “Barbie” or “Lady Gaga” coming from strangers on the street. If you say yes to pink like me, I’ll be euphoric to welcome you in the crowd of unicorns and be delighted the world got a little bit more pink.

Yay, I loved to shoot this outfit. No freezing in the cold but feeling cozy and warm in my wool coat while presenting my winter jacket. Why can’t it always be like this? It might not be the most quirky look I ever styled, but I love this casual winter look and wear it a lot recently.

The dress has already become one of my favourites no matter that my mother asked me If I’m wearing a clown costume seeing me wearing it. Sometimes parents are strange creatures, aren’t they? I remember the day so well when my mother saw my pink hair for the first time and didn’t want to speak to me nor leave the car. Meanwhile, she got used to having a pink-haired daughter, even if the candy colours don’t run in the family.

There seems to be no end in sight for the era of the flamingo. While I show you my darling flamingo bag from Skinnydip I got a few weeks ago in London; three new flamingo pieces are already waiting on my desk to be included in a styling. I wish I could show you everything right away, I Iove all of them and see it as a great privilege of being a blogger to be surrounded by so many beautiful things. Dear weather, please, be kind to me, I have to take pictures.

If you like the look: Shhhhhh, jacket and dress are on sale right now, so you could make a bargain.

Somebody said you should be yourself unless you can be a piñata, then you should always be a piñata. I spent hours and hours trying to grow a mane, but nothing happened. Then I decided just to be myself: A rainbow girl. And look what happened: I am so proud of this look because it’s more me than anything else I ever showed you. I look at the pictures and see the woman I’d like to be, what a feeling!

I am so into mixing prints and this playful skirt from Shanghai-based label Celia B is just everything I’ve been waiting for. It’s like a dream to be wearing something from this amazing designer after admiring her things on pictures for a long time. Those clothes make me feel bold. They seem to tell me that it’s ok to dress as quirky as I want and that there is no reason to adapt to the people on the street who most look all the same to me.

This look is just a firework of dream pieces. Just look at my rainbow piñata bag! I never dreamed of owning this Charlotte Olympia bag, but thanks to my crazy boyfriend it’s mine. I love its happy face and sometimes if I don’t feel very good, I just open the pretty box it came with. The delightful piñata smile cheers me up even more than chocolate.

I wish you a lovely next week. I have another piece from Celia B ready to shoot, and I can’t wait to show you soon…

The probably most casual shoes I own and I couldn’t love them more.
While it was seen as daggy for a long time, everybody is styling double denim looks at the moment. Everybody? No, not me. I could count the pieces of denim I own on my hands, and there is just a single pair of trousers among them – this one.
People tell me denim goes with everything and is THE basic piece of their wardrobe. Since I avoid basics, this is what makes denim even less attractive. Is denim the uniform of a boring society everybody is wearing?  I don’t want to join this club and turn into another faceless denim ghost girl. I simply refuse to give a piece of cloth the power to steal my identity.
This look is a challenge to myself. It’s about how to stay true to yourself while wearing something untypical. I am no plain and no boring looking girl, but up for a cool and urban look. While wearing everybody uniform, I stay true to my quirky soul. Denim, maybe you and I might find peace with each other if you can live with me combining you with crazy things.
How do you like this look and what is your opinion about denim?

Princess ready to conquer the world with pastel power.

Every girl dreams of being a princess, of living in a castle, having a room full of pretty dresses and dancing at balls with the handsome prince of her dreams. You did so too, and your dream hasn’t come true? Well then, maybe it’s time to rethink!

Carrying this princess feeling with you all the time hasn’t to do with possessing an awful lot of money, but with attitude. Close your eyes and think about what small or bigger dreams you could make come true just in the last few months. One, two, three, four… Oh, you are still counting? Great! Do you realise how far you’ve come? You must agree it’s a reason to be thankful for and proud of yourself.

Now the only thing you need for your princess day is just to dress like one. No matter if Belle, Arielle or Cinderella, each princess has her signature look. People very often say that you need to dress for the job you want and not the one you have. I agree and say it’s princess time.

I chose this fairylike skirt and a flower crown for my princess look today and became the ruler of a tropical flamingo kingdom. I managed to include two of this summers trends in one look: Tropical prints and metallics. Great isn’t it? A day with an outfit can turn out nothing else but splendid. Just never let others tell you to grow up, dress serious and stop dreaming!

How do you like this look lovelies and what makes you feel like a princess?
