When life gives you oranges, what are you supposed to do? I say: Turn them into juice or wear them as a jumpsuit! This might be my last summer look unless I manage to smuggle myself into the cargo bay of a plane and make it to Madagascar. If not, you have to be happy with this bright mix of orange and pink – one of my favourite colour combos – for a while and be sure that my autumn looks will not be beige either.

Lana del Rey sings “Summertime Sadness” while I write those lines. It matches my feelings so well right now: No, I don’t want to let my favourite season go. So please summer, kiss me just one more time with your warm rays of sunshine before you go. Just another time and another very last time and maybe one time more and I wear my orange jumpsuit for you.

My look and the song have those sweet and sticky vintage vibes in common, just like orange juice served with a lot of sugar. While the wind plays with my earrings I think of times long gone I spent on the beautiful island Bali.

Back then, I bought a wooden parrot necklace in a tiny shop at the beach and wore it all the time. The birds were just as colourfully painted as those on my new earrings. Many things I love to include in my looks have their roots in my childhood, this is no exception. I come back to them and reinterpret them regularly. Just like there is summer after winter and light after dark, they return.

So yes, if life gives you oranges, be happy!
It means winter is not here yet and you received fruits that taste of summer, warmth and sweetness. You might remember something almost forgotten…

I’ve always had this thing with neon. Like a moth attracted by the light, I am drawn to bright, fluorescent colours and neon signs. It’s either because I am an eighties child or that it runs in my veins.

When my grandfather was a young man, he went to Italy on holiday and saw “glowing advertisings” for the first time. He was so captured by this that when he went home to his tiny village, he decided to start a neon sign company. Probably the first one in the country. My grandma told me that people called him mad, but he believed in it, and the company still exists. If I still had some of the signs they produced, I’d love to mix them with the tropical neon collection in my living room and have a Mini-Vegas at home.

Thinking about my grandfather makes me wish I could do something as exciting and new as bringing neon signs to a place where people haven’t seen them before. But it has become tougher to come up with something new in a world where an eight-year-old might tell you that he has seen it all before. The resurrected 80’s trend of wearing hot pink and blinding yellow still catches some stares for sure, but the times when it was genuinely shocking are long gone.

But it didn’t lose its excitement, so let’s follow the neon trail this summer and don’t follow the style guides that tell you to pair your neon pieces with beige please.

We are all driven by hope, it keeps us going: The hope that tells us there is a place in this world for every crazy fruit, hope to discover the colour nobody has ever seen before, hope to steal a smile from somebody dear, hope to reach a better place and last but not least: A lot of hope that dreams can become more than just wishes born in the depths of the subconsciousness.

Thousands of new ways and junctions are ahead of us day after day. We are constantly facing decisions such as if we wanna go ahead bravely, make a u-turn and reconsider or just stop. Sometimes the mind and the heart don’t share the same opinion and we can only hope to consider well what both say.

I believe there is no such thing as THE one and only way to do things or to find happiness in life, but a big sea of possibilities bringing happiness, pain, and love. All of them together turn into your unique story. Every choice means the birth and death of possibilities on the complex map of life.

But we shall never give up hope, no matter life is perfect or a total mess at this moment: There is hope the journey from the here and now is going to be a very good one. So let’s be brave and face it!
