Last week I visited the beautiful zoo in our city. Besides enclosures for elephants, penguins and tigers, there is an extraordinary Madagascan rainforest hall. You can walk through this little exotic world on small foot paths and see flying foxes as well as cute little monkeys. There are benches to sit under big palm trees, while you hear the sound of a waterfall and exotic birds. The probably best thing about this hall are the always tropical temperatures. Especially when the long anticipated spring still hasn’t arrived yet, it’s the perfect place to go.

The zoo visit inspired me for this post about tropical fashion. Clothes with exotic prints and accessories shaped like jungle plants are coming back nearly every spring or summer and I never get tired of them. There seems to be a desire for the mysterious jungle life with its bright colours and amazing plants in all of us. Dressing like a jungle girl is a wonderful way to cheer up. I especially like the jungle shirt from Fairgound, you can wear it as a dress as well. I think it would look cool either with the necklace from Tatty Devine or the fascinator from Pearls & Swine. Dressed like this, I would forget about the cold weather and wait for my Tarzan to arrive and take me with him to an exotic world.

Do you like jungle inspired fashion too and which of these pieces is your favourite?

Has plastic a strong attraction to you and have you been waiting for more hot pink plastic to appear in women’s fashion? The paradise for all Barbie girls, living in a plastic world is finally here and a lot of plastic clothes and accessories are ready for you in the shops. These bright coloured pieces will bring a little bit of Barbie into your life. You can combine them with plain pieces in dark colours if you don’t want to be too colourful, but I think they will look best with patterned fabrics and even a little bit of neon. There are a lot of black and white graphical patterns in the spring/summer collections of many designers. At first sight it seemed to be disappointing for colour lovers, but combined with pink plastic they will make a fabulous look no doubt.

In my opinion, the best piece from this collection is the jacket. I was waiting for exactly this kind of jacket forever, until Topshop made my dream come true. To make my excitement even bigger, they designed an equally wonderful skirt as well. The handbag is something for girls who don’t have to hide something. My Barbie had a bag like this in yellow neon. If you have just beautiful things in it like the pink sunglasses or the bow hair clips, it will be wonderful.

So what are you waiting for: Get some hot pink plastic, go out with Ken and live your Barbie life!
Which piece is your favourite?

Don’t forget to enter my Rachel’s Wonders Give Away. The prize is pink and shiny too. 🙂

Ring: Wildfox at Jades24, Necklace: Tatty Devine, Backpack: Lostmannequin, Shoes: Vivienne Westwood for Melissa at Asos, Fascinator: Pearls & Swine*

Christmas is the time of the angels and as well the opportunity for you to become one! All you need to spread your wings are the right accessories. There is a heavenly touch for every kind of outfit: A winged backpack for your casual outfits (Lostmannequin), an elegant fascinator for going out in the evening (Pearls & Swine), jelly shoes for dancing like a disco angel (Vivienne Westwood for Melissa at Asos) and jewellery for everyday (Ring from Wildfox at Jades24, Necklace from Tatty Devine).

As a little girl, I played an angel in the Christmas play at our school. I had long blond hair and my mother curled it for me. My halo was made of golden cardboard and I wore a long white dress (probably made of curtain fabric). Our lovely teacher was the makeup artist and used a lot of glitter and light pink lipstick to finish the look. I always loved to dress up, to act and to sing. Doing all this things while being dressed up as an angel was a lot of excitement for a little girl.

This accessories remind me of that moment and give me a warm feeling. I just can’t decide which of this wings shall be mine… What do you like best?

Let’s walk through the streets of London!

Back from my trip to London I still feel the energetic spirit of this city. I already have secret plans to go there again soon. In the meanwhile, all the little London-things in our flat and in my wardrobe must be enough to brighten my mind.

My whole outfit is very much inspired by London. I bought most of the things I wear on my last trip there. Maybe you already spotted them on my post “A Suitcase full of London”. Just the good austrian socks and my funny lipstick ring are no british treasures.

I think the biggest eye-catcher are the Tatty Devine Eyelash Glasses. Tatty Devine is one of the very few companies I have a close bonding to. I already have a collection of their jewellery and I love to visit their shop at Brick Lane whenever I’m close.

My perfect Sunday in London is to visit the flower market at Columbia Road, have lovely breakfast there and walk towards Brick Lane and the Tatty Devine shop. This time I bought no necklaces, but I was in love at first sight with this glasses. After trying them on I couldn’t leave without them without a broken heart. I think they are just made to go with a sharp and defined haircut as mine. This glasses are very fancy and quirky, exactly what I love. A lot of people ask me about them while I’m wearing them and many take out their camera for taking a picture.

Please, please, let me never break them, I already imagine me with 90, as an extravagant old lady, walking along the Thames and still wearing them from time to time. Maybe they would take my picture then for the Advanced Style blog. I would be very proud and tell them that they keep my powerful London spirit alive.

I’m very excited about my next trip to lovely London next week. Of course a lot of shopping will be included. London is the shopping heaven on earth for sure! Because I’m still rather homesick since I don’t live there anymore, I always give in to the temptation to buy as much as possible while on my trips. It feels like taking a part of home with me for having something to cheer me up while I’m longing for London from far, far away. I can’t take my favourite pub with me or the Buckingham palace, so tons of clothes and bits and bobs have to suffice. 😉

I could easily spend weeks with just shopping in this city. There are so many things around exactly fitting to my taste, whereas in Switzerland I miss a certain kind of excitement. As you all know, I’m a big fan of vintage clothing and it’s always unpredictable what you’ll find in this kind of stores. Nonetheless, there are also non-vintage shops which I do like. Here I’ll present you a little wish list of London’s shopping treasures I’ve already discovered on the web. I’m very eager to see them in real and I wonder which of this lovelies will follow me to Switzerland…

What do you think about this things? Do you know any especially cool shops in London?

Do dandelions bring luck?

When I was a child, the best thing about sitting in a bar was if one of the adults ordered a cocktail. I was crazy about the colorful and kitschy cocktail sticks they come with. My love for them didn’t die until now. They look so cheerful and make me think of holidays at the beach with picture book sunsets. There are neon pink flamingos, fancy paper fruits, little pirate ships and glitter palm trees. All of them exciting, but I always had a special favourite:

The cocktail umbrella. It is made of very thin paper and painted with a beautiful flower pattern. As a child I was astonished that this fragile looking think could be opened and closed just like a real umbrella. Once I’ve seen a picture of a girl with paper cocktail umbrellas in her hair as a party look. It was amazing but I wished the umbrellas would have been more durable.

Tatty Devine made this dream come true 2010: Their jewellery collection included a range of perspex cocktail umbrellas. They created amazing necklaces, beautiful rings, brooches and even cufflinks. I just bought a hair barrette at first, but I was in love with the whole range and always felt that I should have gone for a necklace as well.

A few days ago Tatty Devine hold their sample sale which is always very exciting. It’s not just about making bargains, but also about getting the hands on stuff from former, already sold out collections. That’s how I got my long desired cocktail umbrella necklace. I think you might be jealous now that I didn’t told you about this fabulous sale, but I promise to keep you informed about the next one!

What do you think about the cocktail umbrella juwellery?

The melon stands as a symbol for erotic, freshness and luck in love life. If I see a watermelon I have to think about summer instantly. Refreshing yourself with a piece of watermelon is the second best thing you can do in hot weather. The very best thing is to dress up and transform yourself into a melon!

A few weeks ago, I wrote about my Lost Fashion Treasures, things no longer available to buy but I really regret not having. One of them was the quirky watermelon skirt from Lazy Oaf. Last week a little miracle happened: Lazy Oaf had three of them back in stock and one of them is my treasure now. I love that the skirt transforms you into a melon, instead of just showing a fruit pattern.

I was browsing to find some other examples of watermelons in fashion, all of them from the latest collections, ready to order and brighten up your wardrobe: If you want melon clothes with a less cartoonlike look, I would recommend you the pretty dress or skirt on the picture above from the italian label Vivetta. Showing your love for the sweet fruit in accessories is possible with melon jewellery from Tatty Devine or a clutch from Monki.

So what are you waiting for? Dress as a fruit and have fun!

Sometimes (but not very often) you meet someone and know at first sight this person will have a place in your heart forever. It’s the same with fashion: It happens that you see a a special item and you are completely enchanted and never forget about. For various reasons it might happen that you don’t buy it. Maybe you keep a picture of it, pinned at a wall or hidden in a drawer. From time to time you might look at it, always with a bitter sweet feeling of regret.

I believe that fashion is not just about having the key pieces from the current collection of the designer of the moment, but about developing a personal style and find his own key pieces. Don’t trust in the latest trends, trust your taste!

Today I show you a few things I regret not buying. All of them are gone from the shops but I still wish to own one or all of them and keep browsing Ebay. If anyone out there has one of this items stored in the attic: Please step forward!

My unfulfilled fashion dreams:

Lady Dragon Cherry Shoes from Vivienne Westwood for Melissa
I love fruits in fashion and i love Melissa shoes, so this is the perfect shoe for me. I told myself that I already have three other styles of Lady Dragon shoes in exactly the same shape and didn’t buy it. How could I ever believe this just for a single second? Once I’ve seen a beautiful bride wearing them for her wedding on a blog, it was just perfect and I wished it was me.

Fireworks Necklace from Tatty Devine
As a girl with a growing Tatty Devine Collection I should definitely own this necklace. I think it’s among their most beautiful pieces they ever made and it brings sweet memories of bonfire night into my mind.

Metal Corset Belt from Dolce&Gabbana
I even considered hiring a smith to make me something similar to this but I just couldn’t find someone who was experienced in doing anything else expect horse shoes and knives. I didn’t buy this belt because it was far too expensive. My bank account is thankful, but am I?

Watermelon Skirt from Lazy Oaf
This is the most recent item on my list. Another fruit-thing. I didn’t order this amazing skirt because I wasn’t sure about the perfect size. I read on another blog that it’s very, very tiny. Now it’s gone and I’m jealous of everyone who has one.

Bikini from Agent Provocateur
This is the perfect bikini for a modern Pin-up! I love the combination of denim and gingham with the incredibly cute fake pockets. The fact that I didn’t had any beach holidays planed prevented me from buying it and makes me still regretting.

Fake Fur Jacket from Country Road
I was living out of the suitcase for months when i found this jacket. I knew all I can carry with me has to be less than 30 kg. That’s why I didn’t buy this big fluffy animal of a jacket. Till today I can’t say if the material reminds me more of fur or feathers. I’ve seen some similar jackets, but never one as beautiful as this.

I am very curious if you are have a list like mine in your head as well. What piece of fashion do you regret not buying?

By the way: This is my first post in English. Since I started my blog I couldn’t decide about the language. I started to write in German cause there are not so many similar blogs to mine in German and for my friends who can’t speak English. Let me know which language you prefer!
