I love travelling because it is one of the best ways to open the mind and find new inspiration. The memories of my journeys are precious and dear because they stay vivid long after arriving back home. Without travelling, I wouldn’t be the person who I am, it shaped me and changed the way I think. It keeps my curiosity to learn more about this world and its people burning in my heart.

Every journey is a challenge, revealing new sides of myself and making me appreciate life and a breeze of pure and overwhelming freedom. When you leave the door to go on a journey, it’s an opportunity to explore unknown places and leave your comfort zone while you encounter the unexpected far from your to-do lists. Travelling means saying goodbye to the daily routine and exchange it for an adventure. It can be a rather tame adventure or something more daring, but it’s always the opposite of monotony.

It’s exciting to dive into new cultures, eat different food and be surrounded by an unknown language. Whenever I am on a journey I feel highly aware that there is more out there than my small microcosmos.

In everyday life it’s so easy to get lost in a sea of pettinesses: Why is the bus not on time? Why is my hairdresser on holidays when I want to book an appointment? Why is the wi-fi so slow? Do you know what I mean? Sometimes a journey helps to realize all of those things are not that important at all, especially when we encounter people who have to deal with completely different things. There are as many ways to live a life as places on this planet and it’s a gift to discover a few during a lifetime. So let’s pack our suitcase and off we go! I’m ready with my new cute luggage set from Lipault, of course in my favourite colour. From now on people can guess what bag is mine I guess.

Where does your next journey go?

Sara is in Love with… The Sweet Art Museum Lisbon

If somebody had asked how my personal paradise looks, I would have answered like the factory from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but with more pink and candy instead of chocolate.

When I visited Lisbon this month, I discovered that the place I had in mind exists for real: The Sweet Art Museum is a place that encourages its visitors to say “Yes” to happiness. From the moment you spot the pink building, located in a row of grey industrial warehouses, you know: It’s time to enter a dreamlike parallel universe where everything is cute, pink and sweeter than any sweets. It’s time to rejoice for all your girly dreams coming true at once! Forget about dating a member of the Backstreet Boys (yes I know we all wanted that in the 90s), this is the real thing!

Have a bath in the sprinkle pool, get lost in ice cream land or have a ride on the lollipop merry-go-round. This place is Instagram dope and capable of making you feel like one giggling happy girl in heaven, even on a grumpy day. Paradise wouldn’t be perfect if you couldn’t eat sweets on the sly, so almost in every room, you end up with a mouth full of sugar.

If you wanna visit The Sweet Art Museum you should hurry, it’s only there until the end of August 2018. Shhhhh, there are plans the museum might come to London, Madrid or Brasil soon, but don’t tell anybody.

Oh, Amsterdam, I enjoyed wandering your streets during my holidays this month. The Dutch capital is truly a fabulous place to relax and spend a few days. Most people know that Amsterdam is famous for sex and drugs, I say it’s a paradise for shoppers, delicious food, art from many periods, and innovative design.

I have never seen so many concepts stores at one place, so shopping was a real experience next to sightseeing and wandering around museums and galleries. The Dutch are very friendly and joyful, and most people speak very fluent English what makes it very easy for visitors to find their way.

While you wander around the beautiful historic houses and cross the picturesque canals of Amsterdam, you feel like you landed in a real life version of Disneyland. If you like to walk, you see most of the city. It’s not too big or confusing, so you don’t have to be afraid of getting lost. If you arrive in Amsterdam, I can recommend doing a boat tour first to get an overview. Afterward, you might hire a bicycle and go with the flow, just like the Dutch.

Amsterdam, be prepared, I am coming back for sure!

My five favourite places in Amsterdam

The Museum of Bags and Purses:
The world’s largest museum of handbags located in a beautiful house by the canal. Read more about it in my post here.

Envy:
Treat yourself to a five or six-course menu and just sit back and enjoy at this modern and rather posh restaurant. If you are a Vegetarian like me or have any special wishes, just mention them and the lovely staff will take care of it.

Kitsch Kitchen:
My favourite shop in the city offering all kind of kitschy things and a huge selection of colourful treasures from Mexico.

The Conservatorium:
Very cool cocktail bar with a fantastic selection of gin cocktails. I even found a cocktail to fit my pink glitter handbag 😉

W Hotel:
The rooftop bar is not just a good place for having a snack or drink but has a fabulous pool with the best view. Another advice: Visit the toilets, they are quite spectacular…

One of my favourite things to do while traveling is to discover museums and galleries all around the world. During my trip to Amsterdam this month I visited an extraordinary gem I have to share with you: Let me tell you about the world’s foremost museum of bags and purses, The Tassen Museum Hendrikje. The museum,  situated in a lovely 17th-century canal house, tells you about the history of the (hand)bag in Western culture. It proudly presents an extensive collection of over 5000 bags from the 15th century to creations from contemporary designers, focusing on bags from exceptional quality and design, special materials and shapes. Fodor’s Travel awarded The Tassenmuseum Hendrikje as one as one of the ten best fashion museums in the world.
Among the highlights, you can see Margaret Thatcher’s iconic handbag and a Versage evening bag worn by Madonna for the première of the movie Evita. Classics such as the Hermès Kelly Bag or the luxurious creations of Judith Leiber stand next to next with all big names from Chanel to Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci.
The story of this fascinating collection of bags started only about 30 years ago, when Hendrikje Ivo, an antique dealer, bought a handbag from 1820. This was the beginning of a real passion of gathering extraordinary bags and with the help of her husband Heinz the collection grew and grew until it counted more than 3000 bags. They decided to show it to the public at some point. First, the bags were displayed in two rooms of a villa only, till the museum moved to its current location in 2007.
I enjoyed my visit to this museum a lot and can honestly recommend everybody who has an interest in fashion to go there. Another benefit of visiting the museum is to be inside a charming Dutch canal house. My advice: Book a High Tea for your visit to fully enjoy the beautiful museum cafe.
