A few weeks ago, while I was in London, I met Vivienne Westwood at my favourite Indian restaurant. We had an inspiring chat about politics and sustainability. What I read about her before has proven itself true: Vivienne’s priority is not fashion design anymore, but ecology, climate change, and sustainability.

And the queen of punk is right: What could be more important than carrying about keeping our planet healthy and clean? Right: Nothing! Therefore we should all try to set a good example to inspire others to live a responsible life. I believe change can start with little things, like not using straws, buying unwrapped vegetables and using public transport instead of owning a car. Decreasing the number of plastic bottles in our everyday life is on the list too and reduces our carbon and plastic footprint.

Therefore my new flatmate is a SodaStream that frees me (or my boyfriend to be honest) from carrying home numerous plastic bottles. From now on, I just make my own fresh sparkling water with tap water! Magic, yes? Since I could never convince myself to drink pure tap water, even if we have a good water quality in Switzerland, this is finally a solution where I don’t have to me miss my beloved bubbles. Now I can add even as many as I like.

But let’s be honest: I wouldn’t be Sara if I would do something just for practical reasons. There is no way an ugly machine would ever find it’s way into my kitchen no matter how good it is. The old design of SodaStream was such an example and I guess many of you who grew up in the 80s just like I remember that horrible machine from their childhood. But hey: SodaStream didn’t sleep since then and the new SodaStream Crystal with its elegant glass bottles and the shiny cylinder is a completely different league, ready to occupy a place in even a very stylish kitchen.

While back then my parents had a SodaStream to save money, my primary reason is to save resources and this makes this machine a gadget at the pulse of the time and just another step towards a more sustainable life without sacrifices. The only bad news: My boyfriend might have to go to the gym more often since he can’t exercise carrying bottles anymore.

unicorn earrings, rainbow earrings, Tukadu
earrings, bird, quirky Tukadu

A few days ago I lost my favourite earring, a giant purple squid. I was sad, almost like when a good friend just left and I was alone, wishing that person back with me.

This might sound silly because I am just talking about a pair of earrings, a silly piece of plastic and metal, something purely material. But I had them for a few years and wore them quite often. I got a lot of compliments and people asked if they might touch them, even strangers. They traveled with me to London, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Lisbon, my squid companions.

I tried to find the quantum of good in my misfortune and told myself it was just a pair of earrings and it might be time for something new. I consider myself as a person who embraces change in many facets of life and this is no difficult lesson in proving that. What a lucky girl I must be if nothing worse happens to me but me losing some earrings!

The empty space my squid left got already filled: Two pairs of earrings from Berlin label Tukadu arrived to bring back a broad smile on my face. Designer Roberta, her son Tilman, and their team create unique and quirky pieces since 1993. I think both pairs I got are just as special as my squid, unicorns, and birds. So let’s start adventures together, let’s travel and see what looks we can create! Let’s go far together, come back and catch people’s eyes!

They are nicer animals than squids anyway, right?

self.styled, Anthony lycett, Moschino

Ladies and Gentlemen, it finally happened: Sara is part of the Self.Styled project by British photographer Anthony Lycett. This is something I had been dreaming about for a long time because I longed to join the amazing and extraordinary people Anthony captures in his pictures.

Self.Styled is a project that celebrates the freedom of expression and the individuality of personal style. Since ten years, Anthony Lycett is portraying carefully chosen people, exploring themes such as gender, body shapes, different tastes and the meaning of colour in his work. Each person who participates in Self.Styled chooses two looks: Daywear and nightwear, both created in a stylist-free zone. Anthony stages his subjects in front of a plain white background to focus on their personality, character and look, freed from context.

Self.Styled has become a fascinating overview of the diverse understanding of taste and style. It unites all kind of eccentrics from Punks to Goths, dandies, transvestites and urban avant-gardists. I go even a step further and call it THE encyclopedia of individual style of our time. Browsing through the collection of the subject makes my heart jump with happiness because it’s a boost of creativity and a visual anthem to a world where diversity is celebrated.

Self.Styled challenges conventional standards of beauty and is proof there is space for all of us to be proud of who we are: A united zoo of colourful exotic creatures in a sea of communities who endeavour uniformity.

When I was asked to do my pictures, I first got into a panic attack, my wardrobe exploded into my bedroom and I was lost in a galaxy of possible outfits. How to reduce myself to only two looks? What is my essence? And even worse: How to choose looks that fit into a suitcase on top of all belongings required for a week of holidays in London (and space for additional shopping treasures)? For a second I was tempted to postpone the whole thing. But thanks to my eagerness to make my Self.Styled dream come true I suppressed my nervousness and simply went for looks I genuinely love. I had the picture of a quirky Lolita that runs away from home and goes on a road trip in my mind for the red look and an Alice in Wonderland garden party for the pink look. Both looks are playful, but I think they show different sides of me.

We did as well a few extra pictures, playing with the jewellery and costumes of artist Sophie Cochevelou. You see those below. How in love I am with that pony jacket! I am aware that many people would feel disguised wearing something like this, but I am the opposite: Less is not more, but just less me, so give me all the ponies, bury me in jewels and crown me with the Barbies to reveal my true self! The whole shooting was an exciting experience, and I want to thank Anthony for making me feel so comfortable in front of his camera and I am proud to be the only participant with Swiss origins until now.

There is already a book published about the project, you can get it on Amazon. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a second book and maybe my I’ll get my space in it… Wish me luck.

Can somebody please write me a mail asking for my advice if it’s still ok to love My Little Pony as a grownup?

Ok, I don’t wait for this to happen, but this is what I’d say:

Dear lovely reader,
the answer is very simple, yes! If you love them and they make your heart jump with happiness there can be absolutely nothing wrong!

I believe that all those unwritten restrictions about who is supposed to like what at what age are all just made to be broken. They are made for people who are afraid to stand and are simply ridiculous and silly! Don’t fear if somebody says your love for ponies is childish because you are perfectly aware that this has nothing to do with dealing in an adult way in situations that require it. And if you like to express your love in your styles, do that as well.

Loving My Little Pony might just be a sign that you did a great job growing up but not losing your playful side, so please never stop stroking rainbow manes! If you have kids there might even be a bonus: You can share your love and toys!

La Petite Box, an exciting Swiss lifestyle subscription box, is always good for a surprise. I love that they come up with new cool themes for their boxes month after month and that I discover new brands and products with them. This box was all about love, the topic number one among us girls (besides fashion and makeup) no matter if in a relationship or single.

La Petite Box Review Subscribe Box

Mini Silk Scarf from The Moshi

One little silk scarf, many possibilities: It keeps the neck protected from the cold (or hides love bruises), can be used as a headband or to decorate a bag.

Cute Keychain from Virugle

Of course no love box without a Paris-themed item! I love this keychain with the cute macaroon, Eiffel Tower, and sweets charms. Oui, je peux utiliser ça!   Moschino Cheap And Chic So Real Mini
Everybody knows how much I love Moschino, so this is my favourite item in this box. It’s a rather light and fresh scent with a mixture of citruses and fruity notes and a very cool blue bottle.

La Petite Box Review Subscribe Box

Treaclemoon Raspberry Kiss Hand-Cream

A raspberry bomb for soft hands coming in a cute packaging. You do well treaclemoon!

Osis Soft Glam Strong Glossy Holdspray

A hairspray for a controlled out-of-bed-look. Love the pink bottle and its smell. Since I love to have my hair always 100% under control I think it might not be my thing.

Labellino by Labello Lip Balm

Very cute lip balm that smells like raspberry and red apple. Sounds like it must have come directly from paradiese and my lips are happy.

Toothbrush Set from Curaprox

I love Curaprox and their colourful toothbrushes. I was a little bit surprised by the Swiss cross (Wouldn’t a heart have been better for a love box?). Since I don’t have a very great sense of nationality, those found their way into another bathroom.

Heldenpause Lemonade

A lemonade without preservatives, sugar or artificial flavourings, but with an amazing taste of pears, apples, and herbs. Very yummy! Can I please have another bottle and pretend I’m a hero?

Marshmallow kit

A cool retro style kit to make your own pink marshmallows. As a vegan, I am sadly out, and I think I would be too lazy anyway, so I gave this one to a friend.

“What would you do if you ever get bored of colours?” somebody asked me recently. “How could I?” was my urge to say, because for me, to live and wear colours is the most natural thing in the world. As essential as breathing, eating and laughing. There is no why, only a lot of why not’s.

But since I wanted to confuse that person a little bit, I started a wild story about a rainbow living in my wardrobe and whenever I open my closet I come out all colourful day after day. Like Narnia, but in rainbow colours. And who would ever get bored of going to Narnia?

Maybe that person thought I am either crazy or on drugs, but hey: If wearing colours is so much out of somebody’s comfort zone, then it’s certainly a sign that this zone needs enlargement! Yes, I agree, dressing in colours needs a bit of courage (but only a tiny little bit). You might provide somebody with a target, but you have fun and eventually might discover that it makes you feel good. I am absolutely sure that person mastered challenges a million times more difficult in his life, so no need to be afraid of colours at all! After all, they neither bite or hurt.

When I styled this look, I thought about classical divas and wanted to create a modern easy diva version, that fits my quirky nature. I went for rather classical cuts, but an unusual and flashy colour combination. How could I not discover before how well orange actually goes with pink? Of course no diva without a glamorous scarf, big glasses, and gloves and big earrings. My aim was to revive that spirit from Shirley Maclaine in “What a Way to Go!” from 1961, but in a toned-down way. Maybe the look a diva would wear if she goes grocery shopping or grabs some fast food at her local organic store before returning to her pink pool at home. How I love my colourful life…

Do you know who and under what conditions the things you wear are made? This is exactly the question the Fashion Revolution asks with the hashtag #WhoMadeMyClothes. The global movement Fashion Revolution believes in a fashion industry that respects the environment and the people working in the industry just as much as creativity and asks for more transparency about production.

As a fashion blogger, there is nothing that I love more than fashion, but I wish to live in a world where people or our planet don’t have to suffer for this pleasure. I suspected a long time ago that fast fashion must come with a higher price than written on the tag and watching movies such as “The True Cost” completely opened my eyes.

I can’t get pictures such as the horrible scene of how in 2013 the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed out of my head. Nearly 1200 people died and 2500 got injured when this manufacturing building for clothing for big global brands crashed down like a house of cards. Workers reported cracking plaster days before the incident but they were sent back to their posts and the fact that the building was unsafe was ignored due to cost pressure. It’s five years since this happened and clearer than ever that there is an extreme need for change in the industry! A disaster like Rana Plaza should never ever happen again!

How can I keep going and loving what I wear knowing it might be made under very unsafe conditions, physical and verbal abuse and with far too less pay? This made me see fast fashion as what it was: Something that makes us all poor. I don’t promise I will never wear a fast fashion brand again, but I plead for all of us paying more attention, trying to buy less but better and make a choice for fair brands with our buys more often. Let’s make a statement and tell labels that we are not fine with paying any price for our clothes – and I don’t mean the price written on the tag but what lies behind production!

Now you might say that this is all true and like you feel too but that we can’t do something anyway. Yes, I agree it’s impossible for us to visit every factory and see with our own eyes if human rights are respected, but we can demand more transparency from the brands and shops where we leave our money. We can all ask them #WhoMadeMyClothes and keep asking with persistence till the brands listen to us. Because the Fashion Revolution is millions of people all over the world, in Switzerland, it’s me and hopefully you soon too!

On the 28th of April, there is a Fashion Revolution Day happening in Switzerland for everybody who wants to join. There will be a market for 30 sustainable brands, workshops, movie screenings of “The True Cost” and “Blue River”, performances, a fashion show and even a party. Entrance is free.

The lipstick is my favourite makeup tool and the beauty essential that makes me always feel feminine and beautiful. I love my lipsticks bright, high in pigments and with a matte finish.

Therefore I was very excited to hear that Clarins released a new matte version of its legendary golden Lipstick. After silky Joli Rouge and shiny Rouge Joli Brilliant, this is the third finish of the line and the one I’ve been anticipating.

Joli Rouge Velvet is a longlasting and hydrating lipstick with a creamy texture. Thanks to its base of organic Salicornia extract and apricot oil it’s exactly as moisturizing as Clarins promises. I found Joli Rouge Velvet very easy to apply because it glides very gently on the skin. The elegant golden packaging is another bonus for a little bit of movie star glamour in the handbag.

It comes in 10 striking shades, so there must be one for every girl, no matter if you are the plum type, spicy chili, grenadine or rather pink cranberry. All you need to do is choose and smile.

Be ready to be kissed wearing your Joli Rouge Velvet, cause it always all starts with a kiss. 😉

It’s kind of funny: Most girls I know wear trousers all the time and rarely go for a skirt or dress while I am the complete opposite. Last year we did a group picture with about 150 people and while looking at it I realized I was the only one wearing a skirt. Me and the trousers, it’s a very short story with only small numbers: In six years of blogging I only shot four looks with trousers, two of them sports outfits with leggings (no chance to wear skirts), one of them a hotpants look (which technically doesn’t really count as a trouser), one with palazzo pants most people mistook for a maxi skirt and the last one was a look with a jeans hiding under a kimono.

So let’s be honest and face it: I never did a genuine trousers look before and even if my wardrobe is massive I only got two or three pairs of trousers (besides my gym leggings) which are all stored on the bottom and get rarely touched. This makes today’s look quite a premiere, doesn’t it?

Finally, I found a pair of trousers I like and it hit me completely by surprise at nearly eleven o’clock in the night at the Fashionhotel shortly before the shops were about to close. I tried them on and was absolutely happy, felt pretty and my rather short legs looked twice as long wearing them.

Probably it has to do with my better body shape thanks to the sports program I started last year as well, that I finally feel well and confident enough to wear trousers. I’ll stick to loving skirts, but it’s great if you find out you can wear more things than you thought and your body is probably better than you actually thought. Dear gym, I’ll continue to visit you!

As my trousers would say:
Look pretty, play dirty! (Ok maybe I will not play dirty, but whatever ;-))

If you watch my Instagram attentively, you might have noticed one thing: I get bored of things quite easily, don’t stick to habits, and my looks change from pink to yellow to blue and all the way back. Basic is a synonym for “don’t buy” in my ears and if a shopping assistant tells me I could also combine a piece with a simple denim trouser I smile politely but roll my inner eyes. I love stability and consistency when it comes to friendships and relationships, but never when it comes to fashion. I don’t want to stay the same but evolve and reinvent myself.

But there is one consistency as an exception: Even I stick to a few beloved pieces of jewellery, like the rings I got from my man and my two Les Georgettes bangles. I rarely leave the house without those bangles with their fine metalwork I must say. On the opposite: I feel naked when I am not wearing one of them at least.

Why? Because I love the bangles of the innovative French label and their ability to change with me. They all come with reversible coloured bands and the options are nearly endless. So no matter if I want them to match my outfit or be an eye catcher in a different colour, I have the ability to do so. Yay, this is jewellery that matches my spirit.

I just need more bands (and maybe one or two of their rings as well)…
